Coalition? More like a Jackson Pollock painting.

A coalition? What are you talking about? You don't see anyone from the NDP in a ministerial position,do you?
It's not the same thing what the Liberals were proposing under the leadership of Mr.Dion. Now that was a coalition not this.

Who cares if it is a formal coalition. If Harper decides to govern with the cooperation of "socialists" and "separatists", that is good enough for me.

In the meantime, the LPC will be able to continue their fundraising success, policy development and opposing the government.

Win win win

The LPC? Oh yes - that's the informal name for the leading party in Quebec with a 6 point lead over the BQ and two and a half times the support of the Conservatives. But I guess that's hard to fit into a headlince, so go ahead and call them the LPC if you want. ;)

Oh yes, that "Harper can't be trusted ever" Layton guy - the man of principles.

Dion, by the way, didn't propose the coalition Right.L.T. Ignatieff - Layton had plans for quite a while in that regard - Dion just signed on - nice try.

This could be the last downfall of Layton - it makes him look weak and a liar.

I don't get it! When the Liberals were supporting the Conservatives on confidence motions and bills, was it a coalition? If not than what is the difference here?

What is Mr.Harper suppose to say? "NO"

Gayle said...

Of course he does not have to say no.

But what you are missing is that Harper is the guy who criticized the coalition as being a deal with "socialists" and "separatists". He now has to eat those words - because cabinet post or not, he needs them to stay in power.

And that has gotta be just fine with the LPC...

Oh common Sandi hey be serious for just a sec. Mr.Dion was the leader of the Liberals he could have come out and said "NO WAY" and that would have been the end of it period. Isn't that what happened when Mr.Ignatieff became leader of the party? Didn't he put an end to it? So nice try Sandi.

He now has to eat those wordsDepends on our ADD-afflicted "journalists." From what I gather, they're just too busy havin' fun!...can someone please arrange for Paul Wells to go on a hunting expedition with Dick Cheney?

Gayle this isn't a coalition! It's no difference what the Liberals have been doing since 2006. I didn't see anyone on the liblogs calling it a coalition, did you?

I don't see how you get coalition from that article, nor how it separates the NDP or BQ from the past actions of the Liberals - well except it seems the NDP and BQ would probably hedge their support on the Cons making concessions, something the Liberals forgot to do before continuously caving to the Conservatives for 2 years.

This kind of comment is music to BCL's ears.

The point is that the problem Harper had with the coalition was that it relied on cooperation with socialists and separatists. If he goes ahead and does the same thing, coalition or no, then he is being hypocritical.

While the NDP would have been in cabinet, the Bloc was not a member of the coalition and would only have supported the government - much like will happen if Harper and Duceppe work together.

So, no, it is not different from the "cooperation" between the LPC and the CPC, but for the people Harper will now have to cooperate with.

How soon they forget. Another lastest, final, forevermore downfall of Layton, bereft of life, never to rise again.

How many is that, a dozen in the past 4 months?

62 and counting, kiddies, and I seriously doubt that the NDP caucus is in any hurry to replace one egomaniacal, war-enabling, right-wing corporatist in the PMO with another.

Yeah - that is just KILLING them in the polls right now.

Soon we will be filing that under "dead news" right after "Adscam".

Exactly. Whatever form this takes, Harper and Layton are being hypocritical. Duceppe is just being Gallic.

Gayle said...

And finally - who cares if the liberals want to label this a coalition.

It will only mean they have learned how well such mischaracterizations have worked for Harper.

:)

....ah c'mon now yourself - you tried to claim that Dion proposed the coalition (5:56).

The Liberals weren't in a coalition when they voted for the budget.\

This is getting so silly. Layton pumped up his chest when the onus wasn't on him (how brave and princpled) and now he's ready to deal again - he'll sleep with anyone - history proves that.

RuralSandi said...

The NDP supporters down to counting votes like little kids - unbelievable. Get a grip. Canadians wanted the Libs to vote for the budget - doesn't Layton read and a large majority were pleased that they did. Gosh, it's like saying you got more popcorn than I did.

Who the hell cares how many votes?
