Why I Cannot Currently Support the B.C. Liberal Party

B.C. Premier Christy Clark alludes to the Northern Gateway pipeline:

British Columbia's coast does not just belong to British Columbia, it belongs to Alberta...

Not that anyone out there cares about my opinion, but the winner of the next B.C. Provincial election will have come out against this monstrosity.  A few local pols have already lost their jobs from fence-sitting--these guys at the municipal level, mind you, who don't really have much say over the matter.

And should Northern Gateway get approved in late 2013, the next LPoC leader should get pictures of himself lying down in front of the first tractor ASAP.  That's how the Libs can win back the Left Coast.

B.C. For B.C.ers!  Let the Calgary tar patch stick that in their pipe-line and pump it.

The weird part is that you seem to think the BC Liberal Party is actually liberal. They're not and haven't been since Gordon Campbell and his gang of crooks high jacked it.

We'll await Alberta's announcement that "Alberta's tar belongs to Canada!"

Carmichael, I'm an old BC boy. When Campbell took over in 1993 or whatever there was hardly a BC Lib Party worth highjacking In any case, he was generally too right for me, but on some issues (for example native land claims) he showed intellectual growth.

If it wasn't worth high jacking then why did they high jack it? They could have begun something more aptly named for themselves but they chose to high jack something not worth high jacking. According to you.

What's your politics really?

you are not making any sense at all Carmichael. I am also a long time BC woman and BC was in dire straights after 10 years of the NDP. Its amazing how one so easily forgets what BC looked like before Campbell became premier of BC. Our province was broke, facing a deficit that was well hidden when the ledgers were turned in and audits were done when they took power. the NDP squandered our tax dollars on fast cat ferries that were not suited for the BC coast, never allowed fair bidding for BC ship builders or other ship builders from other countries. Every job had to be union jobs regardless of the cost chasing business out of the province because of the NDP. They can say all they want about that didn't happen but in reality, they are as close to the Reform Alliance party as Harper is.

They are also compulsive liars and a BS government. They will do anything, say anything to buy a few votes and right now, they are riding on the shirt tails of Laytons death and not only in BC but across the country. They have nothing else going for them

Those pipelines will be built. The various indian bands along the route have already given the green light to 3 natural gas lines, so they'll have a hard time arguing against the oil.

Especially now that we know these bands have been bought & paid for by a bunch of eco narcissist American ex hippies who cooked up the anti pipeline campaign while sitting around stoned in the Hollyhock hot tub.

The pipelines will be a good hill for the greenie nutter set to die on. Forlorn hope about what Kyoto could have been will provide the impetus for the suicide of the global warming greenie nutters.

I can almost smell the welding fumes from here.

That is right, Fred, if they are Hippies, then global climate change is nothing to worry about!

Anyone opposed to the pipeline is full of shit. It moves product from a great resource to Asia at very good prices. IOW's STFU

Right, Marie.

Other slower economic growth, record deficits, the giveaway of crown corporations and public land and rivers, the erosion of the public school system, and the worst child poverty in the country, things have been so much better under the ReCreds.

100% of BC pays for Ontario and Quebec's "Have Not" status.

Most people that live in B.C. couldn't give a rat's ass about what happens in the northern part of the province. If it benefits the economy, helps balance the books and is far, far away from their backyards on the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan, most BC'ers couldn't care less.

That isn't what the polls say.

In any case, there's opposition also along the coast.

Polls are infinitely mutable.

Of course there will be some opposition to it. Wouldn't be B.C. without opposition from environmental cranks and those who believe magic fairy dust powers their lights and... computers.

Most British Columbians are at least aware that oil doesn't power their lights and computers.
Most are also aware of the coast's value beyond its ability to simply employ a few more people at an oil terminal.
Those that aren't would probably be just as happy moving to some prarie shithole.

I guess that speaks VOLUMES for the respect some people have for the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. No wonder the Liberals are dead as doornails in all three places with snotty attitudes like that!

No, of course, oil doesn't power the lights and computers of BC'ers (nobody claimed that it does). In fact that comes from hydroelectric dams and natural gas fuelled thermal plants. Which you can also find plenty of local NIMBY environmentalist opposition to if you care to look.

And yes, "the coast" has vast intrinsic value beyond simply being an oil terminal -- a precious observation not unique to emotive darlings of the left, btw. One presumes that any such development will take all the necessary precautions and safety measures to ensure its preservation. Unless that is, you're of the mindset that believes any sort of development or industrial activity is inherently EVIL, deliberately malicous, and wantonely destructive.
