Don't have much time to comment but, from The Star:
"Nationally, the Conservatives had the support of 36 per cent, the Liberals 30 per cent and the New Democrats 17 per cent."
In Quebec, the province Harper has wooed most assiduously, the poll found the BQ had rebounded to 43 per cent, up five points since a Decima poll in May, while the Tories had slipped six points to 23 per cent. The Liberals had 18 per cent and the NDP eight per cent.
And in Ontario, where the Tories and Liberals had been neck and neck as recently as mid-June, the poll found the Liberals had pulled into a nine-point lead with 43 per cent support, compared to 33 per cent for the Conservatives and 18 per cent for the NDP.
Harper is still strong out in the boondocks, however. But the news that warms my heart is, as Decima Research CEO Bruce Anderson says:
Given the high profile of the Middle East conflict.... It's reasonable to speculate that some of the softening of Conservative support, at least in Quebec, may be linked to Canada's alignment with the U.S. foreign policy (on Israel), coupled with major investments in military capabilities.
There's hope for this country yet.
Ha so a poll showing you losers down by less than 10% is a victory?
ReplyDeleteMy how the mighty have fallen!
Its actually quite heartening.. Canadians havent liked what they've seen.. and it shows in the polls.
ReplyDeleteThis might stop Harper from threatening every other bill to call a non-confidence motion when his agenda gets threatened.
Haven't liked what they've seen...did you look at the poll? Tories still leading. If an election were called today, Tories win. If this is somehow a victory for you Liberals, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteBeing someone from the "boondocks" (if a city of a million people can be referred to in such terms), I thank you for yet one more insult. When we Albertans finally decide that we've had enough of the sneering and the insults and the corruption of central Canada, it will be all the sweeter to come back to this blog and bask in your contempt.
ReplyDeleterob,
ReplyDeleteI've been called a bum from the East on numerous occasions, and a latte drinking scumbag. Quite whining.
Hey Rob:
ReplyDeleteYou wouldnt happen to be one of the 3000 or so (give or take a few hundred) in your province that actually believe Alberta should separate?
Good luck with that.

ReplyDeleteHey Anon:
ReplyDeleteTories still leading in the polls yes.. but trends definitely arent in their favour right now. Despite that one poll claiming a few days ago that a majority of Canadians support Israel's (and by extension - Harpers) actions, his poll readings have gone DOWN, and in the 2 spots he can least afford if he wants his majority to run roughshod over this country and turn it into George Bush Lite: Ontario and Quebec. (I dont think BC is that crazy about him either).
Even the "anonymous" Tories interviewed in the papers sounded despondent .. but keep up your brave front.
There is quite a backlash in BC, which Harper and his minions (e.g., Emerson) will find out if they venture this far left I guess if you consider North as your main point as opposed to looking south for your guiding light...
ReplyDeleteAll those racially-divided fishery people for one, the forest industry for two, Emerson just on principle for three, the Kelowna Accord, the Gateway project overruns, and the missing Minister, and last but not least the environment...
Damn, I lost count of all the things. Wait, oh yeah, wait times! That's uh 7 or 8 now?
Nice idea with this site its better than most of the rubbish I come across.
