The Boss'll be there, but he won't be attending the planned tribute to his longtime rival Paul Martin, according to CTV.
I imagine that many Liberals will be using this time on Thursday, November 30th, to clip their toe-nails or bathe their pet hampster or sneak out for a round of mini-golf. Meanwhile, those attending Martin's tribute can fill in the dead spaces by imagining how a fourth, fifth or sixth Liberal majority might have looked if they had stuck with Chretien instead of selling him out to this colorless party functionary who felt entitled to a shot at ruling the nation before he grew too old.
Not that Martin was entirely useless. In fact, his dithering was a useful personality trait under the circumstances. Like hands on a Ouiji Board, public pressure was able to force him towards the correct decision on, for example, participating in the missile defense system.
Imagine if he'd had enough of a majority to follow his political instincts!
See, I knew the truth would come out from you eventually BCL.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just Iggy you hate. It's the Liberal Party.
First you try to get Liberals to hate each other over Iggy. Now you try to remind people that they were hating each other over what Chretien did to Turner Martin and what Martin did to Chretien.
I guess I've been mistaken. I thought renewal meant moving away from all of that and the end result of a Conservative government. But thank you for pointing out that renewal is really just about "renewing" the old fights and helping make sure the Conservatives stay in government.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Hopefully, renewal means greeting Chretien with the kind of respect you accord someone who saved the nation, slew the deficit, and won three majorities.
ReplyDeleteDo with Martin what you wish.
Conservative liberals instinctively prefer Martin to Chretien and think the rest of us should too.
