From the CTV website:
Prime Minister Stephen Harper waded further Thursday into the incendiary debate over Liberal leadership front-runner Michael Ignatieff's charge that Israel has committed a "war crime" in Lebanon, blasting the entire Grit hopeful lineup for what he called their "anti-Israeli position."
So apparently any criticism of Israel means you're "anti-Israel". One presumes that Harper is pandering to the Canadian Jewish Community. Or that he is attempting yet again to write off Quebec.
I swear, with all the turmoil in the Liberal Leadership race, we can only thank God that the competition is a no-class boob who can't open his mouth without saying something likely to offend the very people he needs to get his Majority government.
Harper is, thank God, the only politician in Canada more gaffe-prone than Iggy.
Can you believe we lost to this guy? I hate Iggy, but it seems to me that as long as Canadians have had time to unwind from 10 years of chretien a relatively well groomed chimpanzee could restore the party to power.
ReplyDeleteThen again, i thought the same thing during the 2004 US election.
G
This blog post of yours, bigcity, shows that you know nothing at all about politics or Canadians.
ReplyDeleteI suggest you read my blog to start learning.
Only a fool would look at Harper and conclude that he doesn't know what the heck he's doing.
He knows, and that's why he keeps beating you left-wing ideologues to a pulp.
Haha, wow this guy cyber menace sure knows how to be subtle about advertising his site!
ReplyDeleteSo, CM, dubbing all Lib Leadership candidates "anti-Israel" is just the kind of thing to sow dissent in the Liberal party and get some of us to vote Tory (as you explain on your blog)? This is the kind of thinking that keeps you guys stuck at, what, 33? 34? per cent in the polls.
ReplyDeleteLoud-mouth idiocy gets the rednecks drooling, but to someone not already part of the Tory base, its a turnoff.
i don't get it --
ReplyDeletethe Liberal leadership folks are all pretty much anti-Israel.
what's wrong with that? why can't they feel comfortable in their own skins?
True, Volpe is not anti-Israel. Brison isn't either. but the rest of them? anti-Israel sounds on the mark.
Not EXTREMELY anti-Israel. Just mostly anti-Israel.
if they were anti-gay, do you think they would tell me?
ReplyDeleteI would think, chuckerC. The Libs have a social conservative wing who have opposed, for example, SSM. Why? Is this leading somewhere?
ReplyDeleteWhy is suggesting that Israel did something wrong anti-Israel?
ReplyDeleteThat is ludicrous. Might as well come straight out and say they are anti-semetic which is even more ludicrous.
not going anywhere, just for giggles!
ReplyDeleteha! ha! ha! zing! there goes my ego....
ReplyDeletebigcity, I guess your expertise is left-wing ideology, since it sure doesn't seem to be politics.
ReplyDeletea) Harper is exposing the anti-Israel sentiment that exists within the party, and that some Jewish Liberals are catching onto at an increasing rate.
b) He's showing clear divisions within the party.
Rae and Kennedy coming out to chastise Harper is smart in terms of dealing with b). However, I'm not sure if it's enough to paper over the fact that there is an anti-Israel problem within the party. Cerberus has admitted as much on his own blog.
Going out of your way to accuse Israel of a "war crime" in Qana is anti-Israel sentiment. So is calling it a terrorist state. Yet I'm sure the Liberal party is stacked with people who think these things about Israel and more.
I'm not sure why some of you Liberals are ashamed to admit it. Many of you feel this way. Why not just get it out?
In any confrontation between Israel and its terrorists foes, many of you side with the terrorist foes, right?
Instead of bashing Harper for telling the truth about it, why not defend it because you believe it to be just, which I know many of you Liberals do?
