News Flash: Alberta Progressive Conservative Leadership Contender Jim Dinning Promises Not To Be Uppity Redneck Asshole!

From Canada.com:

"There are times where Alberta tends to be like bear spray and tends to stuff it up the nose of other Canadians -- we don't need to do that," Dinning said in an interview.

"We can be testosterone-driven, truck-driving cowboys from time to time," said the Calgary businessman. "That goes with our maverick spirit. But more often than not, Albertans tend to do rather than say, and I'm going to be a doing kind of guy."

Instead of stoking the resentment many Canadians feel towards the energy-rich province, Dinning would prefer to focus on quietly duplicating success stories such as the drastic reduction of wait times for hip replacement surgery.

[...]

A powerhouse of clean energy, a protector of wilderness, a hub of knowledge -- those are the kind of spots Dinning likes to talk about.

Yo Alberta Conservatives! Vote for this guy!

  2. Well why not? The first thing I ever heard about Alberta was "blue eyed shiekhs" and that bastard Ralph with his "bums from the East" crack. Nice to see a change for the classier.

And they do have a nice IT sector out there, I am told.

  3. He was also the Finance Minister responsible for slashed social spending and dynamited hospitals.

There hasn't been a privaization giveaway he hasn't turned a private profit on. He's on the boards of private liqour store chains, private electricity, private health insurance he's made money from all of them after they were sold out from under he public.

I'm not sugesting any of the others are better - Oberg or God help us, Morton would be much, much worse.

But someone other than the Tories would be even better.

  4. Ti-guy: Albertan fact: the most educated population (university educated) in the entire country resides in the Calgary-Edmonton corridor. "Hub of Knowledge" I think so.

Cliff - are you arguing against private liquor sales? private insurance has it's downfalls but if you're in a serious accident you'll at least get a decent claim from it. SGI seems very attractive to the average albertan because it doesn't cost as much, but then again, when you smash up your Lexus SUV you'll only be given what SGI asesses the damage to be - not the actual retail value of the vehicle before the accident.

"But someone other than the Tories would be even better."

Like the Alberta Liberals? They wouldn't do anything differently. The NDP on the other hand would turn Alberta into Manitoba. No thanks!
