Ezra Levant, No Class Act

By now everyone knows (h/t to Ted) that Conservative pundit Ezra Levant has, less than 48 hours after Stephane Dion's selection as Liberal leader, accused Mr. Dion of being more loyal to France than to Canada.

This is so over the line that one must question the wisdom of the Calgary Sun even publishing such nonsense.

But Ezzy's history is littered with incredibly tacky behavior, from suing his fellow Tories more or less at random, to intially refusing to step aside during the 2002, Calgary-Southwest by-election so that newly elected Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper could run in a safe seat:

At a news conference in Calgary, Levant said he discussed the issue with Harper on Tuesday.

He said the will of the grassroots process that earned him the nomination has to be respected, and said Harper agrees with him.

"He did not ask me to violate our way of doing business," Levant said.

But other members of the Alliance, including MPs, say Levant should have acted differently.

"One person's self-interest shouldn't override the entire party," said Diane Ablonczy, who also ran for the leadership.

Harper will now have to look for an Alliance MP willing to step aside so he could run in a byelection in their riding.

Frankly, I think this deserves an official BigCityLib denunciation. So here we go.
