If not, James Kopp's ongoing trial in the murder Amherst, N.Y., abortion provider Dr. Barnett Slepian ought to be a timely reminder, for:
Canadian police have a warrant for Kopp, the prime suspect in the non-fatal shootings of doctors who performed abortions in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Ancaster, Ont., in the 1990s, Winnipeg police Sgt. John Burchell said.
It is thought that anti-abortion soldier of God "atomic dog" Kopp had Canadian help both in planning these shootings and later in evading capture.
Remember, before 9/11 and the "Toronto 17" there was this nut, and the nuts who bombed Morgentaler's clinic on Harbord, damaging one of Toronto's better bookstores in the process (the Women's Bookstore).
Remember.
This is among the most uncivil posts I have ever read.

ReplyDeleteConservatives have set the standard, Peter.
June 21, 2006
ReplyDeleteLiberal MP Paul Steckle, was the first (only) MP to introduce an anti-abortion private members bill (Bill C-338 ), since Harper took government.
(ooooooh scary Cons)

Yah know BCL, PMSH would have his majority if the Liberal Party of Canada would 'cleanse itself' of all the scary rightwingers taking refuge under the 'big tent'.
ReplyDeleteIt's as easy as Dion refusing to sign nomination papers of any Liberal that holds Christian views against on demand abortion and SSM.
And what about Dion.?? Has any reporter asked him about his personal beliefs??
Is he an Atheist?
G&M Sept 6/06
QUEBEC — Stéphane Dion remembers the taunts he heard as a child in the early 1960s, growing up in a family of secular intellectuals in this sedate, old-fashioned provincial capital.
"You're going to burn in hell because you don't go to Sunday mass," the neighbourhood kids used to tell him.
secular:
1. Worldly rather than spiritual.
atheism:
1.
a. Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
b. The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
Peter,
ReplyDeleteThanks, but you're exaggerating. I don't think its makes the top 100 uncivil posts that I've read.
Thanks, Paul, for that great example of moral clarity. If you think a standard is too low then don't follow it.
ReplyDeleteMy objection isn't about which party has more anti-choice members than another. My problem is with equating an ideology or political disposition with the most extreme of its members. It is quite obvious that Conservatives do not support the killing of abortionists, just as it is quite obvious that liberals are not involved in some grand plot to kill babies.
Yes, wilson61, as I stated, conservatives have set the standard.
ReplyDeleteClearly, you mis-understood my comment to mean members of the Conservative party.
>Thanks, Paul, for that great example of moral clarity.<
ReplyDeleteThank you, Peter. It's nice to be appreciated.
>If you think a standard is too low then don't follow it.<
So where is the basement, Peter? How low will cons go, so we know when to stop?
>My objection isn't about which party has more anti-choice members than another.<
But that's what BCL's post was about, your opinion notwithstanding.
>My problem is with equating an ideology or political disposition with the most extreme of its members.<
Because cons--and you--have never done such a thing, 'eh?
>It is quite obvious that Conservatives do not support the killing of abortionists,<
Since BCL was talking about conservatives--many of whom do support the killing of abortion providers--your reply is moot, since BCL was not talking about MEMBERS of the CONSERVATIVE party.
>just as it is quite obvious that liberals are not involved in some grand plot to kill babies.<
Funny, I don't get that impression from the right. They're all pretty convinced that is our intention, your opinion not withstanding.
Sorry, but this should have read(*):
ReplyDelete"But that's *not* what BCL's post was about, your opinion notwithstanding."
Yes, let's not forget that the current reign of the NeoCons and the Far Right in the U.S. was hatched by Grover Norquist and others when Barry Goldwater's campaign for the Presidency in 1964 was unsuccessful. These are patient people....I assume their patience is due to the fact that they are convinced they have been ordained by God to carry out their work. That's scary in and of itself.
ReplyDeletePaul: as a pretty non-partisan person, I generally like to see people on all sides of issues avoid pulling examples from the extreme. That's my point.
ReplyDeleteThe extreme examples sometimes are very telling of the ideology in general. He feels his violence is "justice" and he had networks of people, in Canada, who apparently agreed enough to protect him. The RCMP never really went after those people (as accessories to murder) the way they should have. Kopp's network still exists in Canada and their violence is still a risk. I wouldn't say that the Conservative party is necessarily scary for this reason but the anti-choice movement (which includes some prominant Liberals, too, although they aren't as publicized) is indeed incredibly scary.
ReplyDeleteYes, conservatives evil, scary. Blah blah blah. Even though some Liberals are pro-life and some conservatives are pro-choice, some of you guys just looooove to slot people into your own little prejudiced slots according to your own bigotries. THAT is truly scary, that some of you are so ideologically hard-wired that you're not even thinking anymore. And it's been my experience that Liberals are the worst culprits. They simply get 'appalled' at the notion that their ideas may not be the best or the only way to deal with a problem, so they just shut their minds and attack.
