Deeply Shitty News

From CTV:

A potential candidate for the federal Liberal party in Niagara Falls, Ont. has been arrested on fraud charges -- leaving the party scrambling for a replacement.

James Curran, 42, who serves as the president of the Niagara Falls Federal Liberal Riding Association, was supposed to be named as the party's candidate today at a nomination meeting.

As someone who has always enjoyed Mr. Curran's insights at The "What Do I Know Grit", which is gone gone gone at the moment, I hope this works out all right for him. Unfortunately, unless the charges (cheque kiting) are proven false post haste, his political career is probably over.

Here's what you told me in a previous post about the Conservative candidate Zeisman who was charge with smuggling 100 bottle of liquor.

"Well, Adscam was a typical "power corrupts" situation. In this case, the corruption started before the guy even got into power. That sure tells you something."

Yep. It sure tells me something. Nothing like eating a little crow, right?

  3. The occasion was Zeisman's being found guilty. Hasn't happened here yet, and may not.

  5. Prairie Kid, what did I tell you before about waking up every day and deciding to be boring and predictable?

...don't you have some Hentai to download or something, or have they blocked all of that on school library computers?

  6. Whooee! I reckon it was the Grits' turn fer a candidates-gone-bad episode. The Greens had that 9/11 cheerleader, the Cons had the rumrunner an' now the Grits got (an alleged) fraudster.

The Dippers is next. Even though I figger Jack Laydown tryin' to keep Lizzie May outta the TV debates is a scandal, it ain't in the same juicy category as these other falls from grace.

What Dipper will be exposed and fer what scandalous infraction?

What about the CheeseHat's gang, too. They're due fer some dirt.

Ti-guy . . . You sure know how to inject your intelligence into a discussion don't you? Is all you ever do is trash somebody when you don't have a valid argument? And I'm too lazy to check what "Hentai" means. Obviously you do so could you fill me in?

  8. Google it, kiddy.

You're just a troll...so you get what you're asking for.

Making the point that there has been, so far, no establishment of guilt is not "spin spin spin." And doesn't it strike you as balanced that both the Zeisman and the this incident are being discussed on the same blog?

If you think your trolling should be spared derision, then you're even dumber than I think. If you're only 12, all is forgiven. But in that case, get the hell off the computer and go clean your room.

I'm on it!....I know one who's been a little careless in sorting his recycling lately. He's going down.

Oh yeah? Well my daddy can beat your daddy . . . .

  11. These events only serve as a distraction. No party can innoculate itself from some scandal.

If he is guilty, it is far better for everyone that he is revealed now. If he isn't guilty, this is a tragedy because it is likely that it will taint him in the future.

I would not support painting any party as corrupt over occurances such as this. I would hate to see politics degenerate to mimic US campaigns. Witch hunts are only won by the super-rich who can afford to cover-up their own skeletons.

hmmm cheque kiting . . could be a very useful tool for Liberal fund raising now that stealing from the taxpayer will be very hard for the LPC to do from the opposition benches.

Maybe he should be recruited for the LPC back room/tall forehead crowd as a bagman.

  13. You don't need criminal behaviour to steal from the taxpayer to reward your cronies. Harpy does it by giving his stable of whores government contracts. 100 million in questionnable military expenditures...Now that's how you do it.

Oh my, in the celebration of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms - part of which is "innocent until PROVEN guilty" - remember?.

He was a nominee, not in government yet.

What's wrong, don't know how to Google? Ask Prairie Kid...after he's finished downloading the Hentai, he'll be glad to help you.

ti-guy, you're really fixated on this Hentai stuff. What the hell is it?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Because Ti-guy won't tell you, its generally used to refer to a Japanese variety of pornographic cartoon/videogame, etc.

  19. You people should all just calm down. Dante has it correctly.

People who commit fraud are generally the types who are charming and personable. That is how they are able to convince people to part with their money.

IF this man is indeed guilty, the riding association should not be ashamed that he was about to be nominated - they are only a few of the millions of people who are taken in by a con artist every year.

Con artists know no political affiliation.

Oh, way to go, BCL. Now you've fallen into the wingnut logic trap: when you explain something it means you endorse it and indulge in it. Just wait...now you'll be accused of being addicted to creepy Japanese porn.

No, I think we all know who is addicted to Japanese porn cartoons.

  22. Another Grit accused of corruption.

    Why am I not surprise?

It's like every criminal in Canada can't wait to join the Liberal Party of Canada.

No wonder the Grits are always soft of crime.

Let's ignore that story and focus on a REAL scandal, like Harper's stylist, or Anna Nicole's baby. WE DEMAND ANSWERS TO THE WORLD'S PETTY AND TRIVIAL PROBLEMS!!!!

Plus it helps deflect attention from certain criminally-inclined political parties whose leader is about to be cannibalized.
