A Blast From The Past

Procol Harum is one of the great, forgotten bands of the 1960s/1970s. They mixed classical music sounds with the bluesy (Clapton inspired, and then Hendrix inspired) guitar-heroics of axe-master Robin Trower. Everybody has heard "A Whiter Shade of Pale", and they still play their great live version of Conquistador (with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra) on the radio occasionally. The two songs I've showcased here are less well known, however. "Pilgrim's Progress" from A Salty Dog is real pretty. "A Christmas Camel" is somewhat more up-tempo, and contains a nice solo from Mr. Trower, although the sound is a bit rough and I don't know who dressed pianist/vocalist Gary Brooker that day.

This may be it for today. I'll be out until late afternoon and it seems pretty slow for legitimate news.
