FreeD Weekend Roundup: Whatcott Emerges

You would think that the FreeD owners would want to put as much distance between themselves and far right nutter Bill Whatcott as possible, but no, he's back and posting on the "Support Free Dominion" facebook site. Not only that, he's flogging the same anti-Muslim pamphlet that got them all in trouble in the first place:

Mind you the Christians at FD have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit on our side. I would suggest God is mightier then the effiminate, anti-Christian state called Canada.

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."2 Corinthians 10:3-5

To see the flyer at the center of this censorship scandal go here.... feel free to copy this flyer and distribute far and wide. I have been blessed to disseminate this worthwhile truth in 2 provinces, 2 university campuses and 3 cities.

I still don't feel like linking directly to the offending pamphlet, but Bill's own website is here if anyone wants a look.

Note: Reality Bites tells me that Whatcott has been banned from the FD main site, though I have been unable to locate the exact thread where this occurs. We'll see how long he lasts on Facebook.

And something I missed a few days ago. The following is the text of the CHRC instructions to Free Dominion Ms. Connie Wilkins:

June 08 2007
c/o Free Dominion
2033 Unity Rd.

Elginburg, Ontario K0H 1M0

Dear Ms. Wilkins:

The Canadian Human Rights Commission has received a complaint from Ms. Gentes alleging that your website Free Dominion, located at http://www.freedominion.ca,/ is discriminating against persons or groups of persons by communicating messages on the Internet that are likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt on the basis of religion, race, national or ethnic origin and sexual orientation, contrary to section 13(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act (“CHRA”).

Under Part III of the CHRA, the Commission is required to address any complaint that alleges a violation of the Act. An Investigator will be designated to gather evidence in relation to the complainant’s allegations and, once the investigation is complete, to report on the findings to the Members of the Commission.

The report to the Commission will include a recommendation for the disposition of the complaint. The Investigator can recommend that a conciliator or a Human Rights Tribunal be appointed, if the evidence supports the allegations in the complaint, or that the complaint be dismissed, if the allegations are not supported by the evidence. The Investigator can also recommend to the Commission that a settlement be approved if the parties reach an agreement during the course of the investigation.

At this time, I would appreciate receiving by July 18, 2007, your position regarding the allegations including, but not limited to, the following:

1. Do you own and/or control the Free Dominion website? If not, who owns and/or controls this website?

2. What is the purpose of the website?

3. What is the intent of the information /documentation posted on the website?

4. Who is responsible for editing and/or posting the content of the information/documentation on the website?

5. How are the documents being posted on the website?

6. Who is your present Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Where is it located? Please provide a copy of the ISP’s arrangement and/or copy of the agreement with the ISP.

If someone other than yourself will be representing your organisation in this matter, please let the Commission know at your earliest opportunity by calling 1-888-214-1090 and speaking to John Chamberlain, Manager, Investigations. Also, please be advised that you are required to preserve any material related to the complaint, including information in electronic formats, until final disposition of the matter.

Yours sincerely,
Richard Tardif
Deputy Secretary General

As "Buckets" pointed out at Saturday's ProgBlog get together, all very basic stuff that the CHRC would need to determine who bears responsibility for what at the site. Of course Free D regs are screaming "kangaroo court", "commie commisars", and the like.

Until something major happens with this case, I will probably be writing about Free D less frequently over the next couple of weeks. So here are a few last hits on the topic.

Flanders is planning an on-line petition, and though I don't sign such things, my good buddy Galactus, Eater of Worlds, will probably show up and put his name to it. When details become available, I will let everyone know. I'm sure "Heywood J. Blome" will want to show his support for Free Speech, Liberty, and etc.

The Winnipeg Sun's Joe Quesnel did a short column re FreeD on Friday. He is also a member of their Facebook group.

I am not surprised in the least that Whatcott was banned. He broke his word to Connie and Mark on their wedding day. That makes him a liar and back stabber. His opinions are so stupid I wouldn't waste a breath talking about them.

I think his betrayal of people who supported him and people who will pay dearly for him, figuratively and monetarily, is as low as you can go. This is the real Bill Whatcott. Disgusting!

Giving Whatcott the chance to slurp up some else's limelight is like leaving cash lying around in front of a crack head who is jonesing.

Now if they can just rid themselves of that psycho-freak Roy Wilson.

    Wow! J.B. Stone nailed it.

"He BLATANTLY ignored that request....and did it under odious circumstances besides.

THAT is the act of a SELFISH ASSHOLE...prolapsed or otherwise.

It is NOT the conduct of a thankful guest."
    - JB Stone

    Bingo!

Whatcott's opinions are beneath contempt but I still would prefer to hear them so they can be addressed. If only to illustrate the absurdity - like jailing homosexuals. It may be upsetting to know but it's important to be reminded that there really are people like that. I'm sure many of you have known some in your lives.

All that aside, he betrayed people who were as friends on one of the most important days of their lives. It is simply shocking that there are posters still supporting him.

I am glad to see that Mr. and Mrs Fournier have "seen the light".

It is likely that Bill Whatcott's behavior will cost Connie and Mark thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars. It could bankrupt the family. The kid's future could be affected in terms of their educations. Connie and Mark are working stiffs like me. Even in ideal circumstances raising children is very difficult. Thanks to Bill Whatcott, that will now be so much more of a struggle.

But hey, baby Jesus told Bill to stab anyone in the back because he is saving babies and "educating" people about the evil menace of homosexuality. Praise Jesus and screw the Fournier family!

Way to go Whatcott. You vile, despicable traitor. Shame on you.

  5. It doesn't look like much of a case to me. Are we sure this isn't a lot of fuss over nothing? Maybe it's just the CHRC going through the motions as they're obliged to do.

getting back to REAL news . .

Liberals . . always entitled to their entitlements

    Murray Campbell's column

...Once again, the Premier will have no one to blame but himself.
The furor over the year-end grants to groups seen to be friendly with the Liberal Party began last April with a story that the Bengali Cultural Society received $250,000.
The story had legs because one of the organization's executives was vice-president of the riding association of Liberal MP Maria Minna.
The next day, we found out that the Iranian-Canadian Community Centre was given $200,000 just three weeks after it registered as a charity and that its directors included a Liberal candidate in the coming election.

This concept could be even more damaging.

...In the coming weeks, you will hear a lot from opposition politicians about the cricket association that asked for $150,000 after it was invited to apply for funding and the next day received $1-million. It had so much money that it spent $20,000 to throw a celebratory dinner (at which Mr. McGuinty spoke) and then socked away $500,000 in five-year, investment certificates.
Parents of autistic children or those running bake sales to buy school textbooks will scratch their heads. And thanks to Mr. McGuinty's faulty political instincts, they won't have time to forget before they head to the polls.

  7. RT,

I don't really know how serious the complaint is. I suspect that, because Whatcott has been tagged for this kind of thing before, and because he was advertising (on FD) the existance of paper pamphlets he intended to distribute, the complaint might be legit. But I am no lawyer.

One of the guys at the BBQ this weekend, who is very much aware of FD and this issue, was more skeptical, and said also that, even if legit, the punishment was likely to be no more than a few hundred in fines and a promise to be good...if they settled.

  8. I have heard that my good friends Claude Balls and Homer Secksual will endorse the FD petition too.

Me, although I also see this complaint having little merit, I don't like FD so they can get by without my overt support.

  9. That's a big part of the problem; had FD been more honest, consistent and coherent, and had done a bit more self-policing, they'd probably have some support on my part, but as it stands, I couldn't really care less; shut it down, shut it down now!!!1! The world isn't improved with the existence of FD. When I need to be informed about "principled conservativism" I look elsewhere. When I need to understand the discursive behaviour of FD'ers, I read the DSM-IV.

  10. Connie and Mark chose to give Bill a platform, knowing who he was and what his history is.

They've also REPEATEDLY endorsed his views. The only thing they've ever objected to was the display of nudity. They also made a winking show of forbidding him to call homosexuals "sodomites" by filtering the word, but have done nothing as he's used "sodo, mite" and other workarounds ever since.

They also chose to react to the complaint in the worst way imaginable. Like the bigoted idiots they are.

So while BW may be the catalyst, Connie and Mark (a stiff, but not a working one) bear full responsibility for the costs this complaint will encur.

I can pity their children for having such appalling bigots as parents, but not the bigots themselves. They made their bed, let them lie in it.

They've spent years using their website and organizing politically in an attempt to destroy the lives and happiness of people they hate, strangers they've never met and who want nothing from them except to live their lives in peace. If it ends up destroying their lives and happiness instead, all I can say is, "good."
