Climate Skeptics On Christian Environmentalism, Redux

Overheard in the Climate Skeptic's Cafe.

Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters, August 28th, 2007:

Folks,

If religious leaders are going to get in on the con, we're in

trouble: (link)

Sonja A Boehmer-Christiansen, Editor of Energy and Environment, on Sept. 16, 2007:

Right, and likely. Think of the much desired power (control over behaviour) this promises to religious groups.
Sonja

Interesting in that Sonja appears as one of the non-Evangelicals with "special expertise in climatology or related sciences" to sign “A Call to Truth, Prudence, and Protection of the Poor: An Evangelical Response to Global Warming.”. This open letter was itself a rebuttal to “Climate Change: An Evangelical Call to Action”, which urged that Evangelicals take ownership of and take action on the climate change issue.

According to Sonja, the signatories to this latter document desire power, and should presumably be discouraged.

leave it to evangelicals to call for changes, cite ancient texts as their proof, and then sit back and let the debate deteriorate into cylical arguments about poorly researched theories and "natural causes".

it is an insult to the intelligence of the nation to try and deny that human actions here on earth are having NEGATIVE consequences, whether or not you agree that those consequences have anything to do with rising temperatures or melting iceshelves. we (humans) are the only creatures on the planet in a position to reverse the damages the earth has so far sustained, and so you're ridiculous arguements over whether this is "god's" will or not are irrelevent.

if not us, then who..... right?

please, for all our sakes, stop argueing over rhetoric, scriptures, and symantics.

the true culprit here is human greed...

  2. Johnnyd . . . there is no doubt that it is in our best interests to clean up the air in our big cities. Diesel particles, manufacturing polution etc.
But that has actually been going well for over 30 years. Cities are cleaner now that they were . . . still not where we need to be. The automobile is 98% cleaner than it was in the 60's.
But, the debate is over "Human-induced" GW created by CO2 . . . . this is not "settled-science" . . . whatever that is. If the science was settled why are so many scientists on govt payrolls sucking billions of dollars trying to document said theory?? They should all be out of work!
The earth today is not warmer than it has been in the past, like when the Vikings lived in Greenland, or colder, as when there was a mile of ice over Winnipeg.
It also seems the glaciers are melting on Mars . . . did it ever occur to any of you that the SUN is a big player??
Unless you are into Carbon-trading, like big AL, you won't make a fortune on this apparent scam.

OMIGOD, THE SUN! Now why didn't anybody think of that before?!!11!

Ah, well , the Vikings didn't notice it either, which is why they all ran around in GREAT BIG FUR COATS, because they never noticed that the sun makes things warm.

So how does that change things, now that NASA has admitted to errors as found by Steven McIntyre? Warmest years were back in the 1920s, 1930s, NOT recently.

"The true culprit here is human greed" the catch-all phrase for every neo-com socialist out there with an axe to grind.
