"For the independence of the country, saying no to the Americans on the war was a great moment for Canada," Chretien says.
It was, and Stephen Harper and Ralph Klein and Mike Harris and every Conservative in the country should be force-marched to Montreal (or wherever he keeps these days) and be made to kiss his ass.

Repeat after me: they're our neighbor, not our nation; they're our neighbor, not our nation; they're our...
Ahhhh PM Cruton.
ReplyDeleteStill a legend in his own mind.
The only PM ever to be booted from office by an internal party coup.
And he's Steffi's role model !!
You guys just keep sucking on that teat full of your own bathwater.
Shouldn't this post be labelled under humour???
ReplyDeleteYou trolls really have got nothing on this, do you?
ReplyDeleteBut BCL, we all know Chrétien's motivation for saying "no" to Iraq was selfish and self-serving...he smugly and arrogantly wanted to be remembered for having made the correct decision on this, an issue of great and lasting import.
Talk about ego! Not like Harper, who had his pants down, had grabbed his ankles and was backing towards Bush before Bush even knew who he was. Now that's authencity you can be proud of.
The Shawinigan Stranger is back at it again. He must have a book he needs some free advertising for.
ReplyDeleteWorst.
Prime Minister.
Ever.
It's funny, how come we aren't hearing the usual "Iraq quagmire" doom and gloom stories? They only report the bad news in Iraq, and they're not saying anything now, so what does that mean?
ReplyDeleteWorst.
ReplyDeletePrime Minister.
Ever.
Not even close, anony-tard. I don't think we've had a worst prime minister ever...I don't even think Harper will be, despite really working hard for that honour.

What matters is whether going into Iraq was right or not. "Standing up to America" is just a side-effect.
ReplyDeleteOr at least, it's supposed to be. For Liberals, its more important to "stand up to America" first, and then worry about what it is you're taking a stand on.
See there we go again...Liberals always want to force people to do things...sad isn't it?
ReplyDeletethis blog post is just a diversion attempt, a pretty cheap, sucky diversion attempt, to avoid the reality of Steffi being a 100% complete fucking catastrophe as leader of the LPC.
ReplyDeleteHe's all yours. Enjoy mes enfants.
"Angus Reid Global Monitor) - A third of Canadian adults believe the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) would be a competent head of government, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. 34 per cent of respondents think Jack Layton would make a good prime minister.
In addition, only 23 per cent of respondents think Liberal leader Stéphane Dion would make a good prime minister, while 14 per cent feel the same way about Green leader Elizabeth May. "

ReplyDeleteYes, of course. Brilliant as always, Aaron.
...*rolls eyes*
I can't believe how ignorant Conservatives are. They say the stupidest things and...they don't care.
"I don't know how demented you'd have to be to believe that a large majority of Canadians want to be Americans. You keep pushing this LIE out against conservatives, that we all fawn over GWB, that we all wish we were Americans, and that we HATE Canada. Lies, fearmongering, propaganda, hatemongering, those are truly the signature strategies of Liberals." Anonymous 5:20 PM
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of stating the incredibly obvious, the problem is not that a majority of Canadians want to emulate/become Americans, it is that a small minority of Canadians centered in the CPC *DO* by their own past words and deeds appear to want this and the rest of us, especially in the progressive side of the political spectrum are strongly opposed. Where you got your nonsense from is a mystery. Case in point, Harper is an adherent of the Calgary School of political thought, a school strongly shaped by the AMERICAN political philosopher Leo Strauss whose writings are the core of the true neoconservative movement in the USA. A more strongly American rooted political school in this country would be hard to impossible to find, and this school is heavily represented in the PM’s office and the inner circle surrounding that PM. That is factual reality, not empty rhetoric, unlike your quoted nonsense above.
We see the Harper CPC importing tactics and tools from media controls to rhetorical language to visual aids right out of the GIOP/Rove/Bush playbook. We see policies being brought in that are more compatible with American policies than we have pursued prior to the CPC government coming to power. We hear from the CPC things like activist judges, liberal media bias/conspiracy and howlings from the pro-lifers about partial birth abortions (an specifically American termed expression by Frank Luntz for the GOP and not relevant to reality in this country), and yet you want to argue/claim that there is no basis whatsoever to believe that the Harper CPC is heavily enamoured and want to replicate as much as they can not just American style politics but GOP ones at that (which is extremely hard core to radical right wing by our political standards I should point out) in this country judging by their actions. Sorry mate, only in the hallucinations of CPC supporters and partisans does this work, the rest of us living in reality know better.
I’m so glad that I don’t allow anonymous comments. What a pathetic bunch of losers. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it’s nice to see Chrétien back in form. Maybe Harper would have done better to have hung around with him rather than Mulroney. He might even have improved his golf game.
scotian, stating the obvious is always necessary (but rarely effective) when dealing with brilliant arguments such as : "Cretin is a lying douchebag who looks and talks like a fucking retard." (anonynut 1:01)
ReplyDeleteterrific response, btw.
I remember well (because of my job at the time) the tension among military from regular troops to higher levels, and CSIS at the time the government was debating Canada's level of involvement in the Iraq invasion. It was seriously debated, and should have been. For awhile it looked like Chretien was going to send troops, but that changed, so this was not a case of a Liberal always being anti-American.

that's because you probably get your news from places like FD and SDA
Bush has dropped so far in popularity largely because of his failures in reference to Iraq, and what looks to be another expensive, (life and money expense) fruitless war.

ReplyDeleteHe's still HUGELY more popular than the Democrat-controlled Congress.
And just because the left-wing media don't report it, doesn't mean it's not happening. We - yes, I said WE - are winning now in Iraq. Shove that up your pipe and smoke it.
