Does this sound like a government ready to abolish or "denormalize" the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal?
OTTAWA, February 20, 2008 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the appointment of Edward Peter Lustig as a part-time Board Member of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
Didn't think so. Harper's attempt to reach out to the Canadian center would be good and spoiled were he to get tagged with a label like "the man who freed the Nazis".
Harper knows his party contains that rump of the demographic that has to be restrained from declaring final solutions to every challenge this country faces.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he should get these courts to go after critics of Christianity. Then we can see bi-guy do a 180.
ReplyDeleteI wish you guys would. The exposure of your irrationality (and associated hate) in public court is fascinating. Not entertaining, but fascinating, particularly in the Information Age, which reveals the degree to which you all rely on vilification, pseudo-science, sophistry, hair-brained beliefs, outright fraud and bold-face lying to justify yourselves.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a growth experience for me to learn about the true character of people like Ezra Levant, Mark Steyn and Jonathan Kay in the last while.
I was always charitably characterising the manifestations of these things as being largely motivated by ignorance, but I've come to learn that it's something far more pernicious than that.
This is just a housekeeping measure, I think. I doubt it says anything about the current debate.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we all know that the gov't won't abolish the CHRC, it'll just change the mandate to exclude speech cases, and if they do so, the announcement will be couched in happytalk about what a great job the Commission does in areas like job discrimination, and how the new mandate will help it focus on its areas of strength, and so on.
i.p.
it'll just change the mandate to exclude speech cases
ReplyDeleteI don't think this administrative or procedural change can happen without legislative change. Not that I'd be surprised to find out that the current Parliament of boobs didn't understand the difference. As we found out with the veiled voters issue, the Parliamentarians quite often don't understand the laws they pass themselves.
In any case, despite the grotesque defamation and vilification from the free speech warriors, I remain vehemently opposed to any changes...in fact, more so than I ever was.
Imagine the quality of public discourse when all people have left are expensive civil litigation or criminal law? Imagine the standard a lazy, desperate and decaying media will descend to once another mechanism that promotes civil, intelligent and evidence-based discussion is removed?
Imagine..."Catherine McMillan, senior correspondent, aboriginal issues," backed up by all the corporate lawyers at CanWest?
*shudder*
Achtung baby. Ok that's enough Herr Oberbootsmanfuhrer Klink Ti-Clown. Ich bin sehr aufgeschmertzed . Sind sie ein kartoffelkopf oder um muttermundschleim? Ze "final solution" ist nicht zum lachen.
ReplyDeleteUnser premierminister Harper ist nicht um Nazi. Sie ist anstandige leute. Und ze fuhrer was a terrific dancer, not many people know it. And there was a painter. He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon. Two coats!
"Um Muttermundschleim?" "Um Nazi?"
ReplyDeleteWhat is that...Portudeutsch? Deutschuguês?
You guys have to finish mangling the English language before you start branching out.
If the government wants to keep the HRCs down, it will slash their funding without eliminating it. Hell, Harris did it for nuthin!
ReplyDelete"the degree to which you all rely on vilification, pseudo-science, sophistry, hair-brained beliefs, outright fraud and bold-face lying to justify yourselves."
ReplyDeleteWhat pseudo-science?
"I was always charitably characterising the manifestations of these things as being largely motivated by ignorance, but I've come to learn that it's something far more pernicious than that."
ReplyDeleteAh yes, Serbia just lost Kosovo to Albanian Muslims through their prolific breeding but Mark Steyn doesn't know what he's talking about.
Perfect.

Is that clear, or do I have to get out the flashcards and the finger puppets?
