Canadian Tire Corp. is quietly phasing out the printed edition of the catalogue it has been publishing twice a year for almost nine decades, with a whopping current print run of 6 million copies an issue – in favour of taking the publication entirely online.
When, for example, is the last time you actually used a telephone book to look up a phone number. Mine props up the wobbly leg on my coffee table.
Good news! Now if we could get the Toronto Star to stop printing we might save a few trees.
ReplyDeleteNow if we could get the Toronto Star to stop printing we might save a few trees.
ReplyDeleteI think you missed the point...the information is not disappearing...it's just being made available exclusively online...you now..teh intertoobz thing.
Now that I've cleared that up...
I'm sure this will come as a disappointment to the Home and Garden fetishists who needed a printed catalogue to take into the toilet for some...eh...alone time.
Perhaps BCL's Conservative commenters can provide more insight on that:
What say you? What print publication will satisfy your DIY needs now? Lee Valley?
"Mine props up the wobbly leg on my coffee table."
ReplyDeleteNot nearly as wobbly as Dalton McCunty's commitment to the environment.
Nothing at all in the budget on AGW; in fact, the Ontario budget was so incredibly skeptic-friendly and utterly devoid of evviro-nonsense that KKKate took the very unusual step of praising it.
Provincial spending is actually a greater % of public spending than the feds, and their jurisdiction is at least as vast. Why are you ignoring the more relevant provincial government's 100% inaction on AGW, when at least Steve is making a half assed effort ?
Have you ever criticize a Liberal politician in your life? You go on about AGW daily, and when your own *Liberal* premier pretends it doesn't exist you don't even notice? Get serious.
How is this 'progress'? Was some tiny special interest group somehow being discriminated against because it was being printed?
ReplyDeleteAnd exactly how does it help people without internet access?
More and more, the word 'progressive' is becoming synonymous with 'idiocy'.
how is it "progressive"? It's the free market at work dumbass .
ReplyDeleteTi-Guy: learn your comrade how to talk on the internet proper
ReplyDeleteDo you mean learn *from* your comrade? I thought you were a lurker/stalker who knew I have nothing to learn in that respect.
Not one that I'm immediately familiar with, I have to admit, since you appear to be bilingual and the last one I came across like that I believe would be breaking a court order if he's still trolling anonymously.
In any case, in the last year, I've become less interested in swearing at people. We all know types like you (bullshitting blowhards who can't open their mouths without lying...and drearily at that) get told to fuck off all the time in real life. That's why you troll teh Internets, looking for people to irritate.
It's probably why you all don't date as well.
By the way, those last two anony-tards were hilarious.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, BCL...you are trolling your own blog, aren't you?
So now you're a supporter of the free market system? What about those working poor who can't afford a computer or internet - how are they going to refer to Canadian Tire product offerings? Where's the social justice in letting the most neglected in society become just a little bit worse off because some corporate fat-cats want to improve their bottom line? You are just another corporate shill, covering some greedy capitalist's ass.
ReplyDelete"I think you missed the point...the information is not disappearing...it's just being made available exclusively online.."-ti-guy
ReplyDeleteThat's why I said "stop printing" you dim wit, learn to read.
Question: Will BCL shut down his turgid blog for 'earth hour'? Will anyone care?
BTW, What ever happened to earth day? Died due to lack of interest.
Here is a memorable quote from one of the first earth day's key note speakers, Kenneth Watt:
"The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years," he declared. "If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age." Oh Yeah!
That's why I said "stop printing" you dim wit, learn to read.
ReplyDeleteBut why did you say that when it's substantively irrelevant? Don't you have better things to do?
I hear Hentai is all the rage among ignorant, indolent rightwing anger-management nutcases these days. You could look into that.
What about those working poor who can't afford a computer or internet - how are they going to refer to Canadian Tire product offerings?
ReplyDeleteSo you're joining us in the campaign for better living wages for workers and/or subsidies to lower-income people to offset the cost of basic services such as telecommunications?
Yay! BCL...You converted one.
"hear Hentai is all the rage"
ReplyDeleteCanadian women watch nearly an hour of day more TV than men do. The reality of the CPC being a men's party and the LPC being a woman's party has been well documented in the press this week.
Your side has the TV watchers. I could watch a decade long "Hentai" festival and only glean a fraction of the stupidity that you people get from each episode of Grey's Anatomy, and the twenty two minutes of accompanying commercials.
Which brings us back to Candian Tire; it was actually Canadian Tire Guy who made most of us Conservatives switch off the tube, and start shopping elsewhere.
It's sad that to think someone spent that much time cobbling together so much illogic with the idea that it would be clever.
ReplyDeleteFeh. Off to find a laugh elsewhere. I'll come back later when Fake is really drunk and laughing at the fact that he just let rip a fudgy or something.
"This coming from a supporter of the fed government about to release another failed environmental platform"
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives are indeed slow (as Ti-guy always points out) in picking up from McGuinty that you can't be blamed for a failed environmental platform if you don't in fact have an environmental platform at all. Who's worse, the guy pretending to do something (Harper) or the guy who does absolutely nothing (McGuinty)?
If Ontario Liberals aren't even going to take the trouble to price carbon in their own backyard (a step even Alberta has taken in the tarsands), can we really expect them to do anything about it federally? Doesn't Dion keep saying something about the need for Canada to play a leadership role in the world? Why then, does Ontario apparently not need to play a leadership role in Canada?
"this time putting emissions restrictions on facilities that are TO BE built and not whats being built currently or in existence."
The province has the power to regulate as well, you know. Many other provinces have regulations in some form or another. Alberta has priced carbon in the tarsands and BC has a broad-based carbon tax. Ontario has nothing. Which is really the point. McGuinty's done nothing, yet you don't criticize him and you criticize Harper. If fakename doesn't want anyone to act, he's not really a hypocrit.
Ti-Guy's off to watch The Young And The Restless.
ReplyDeleteStop fabricating such horrible things about me, Fake. It really hurts my feelings.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch anything anymore except The Simpsons, The Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Bill Moyers Journal, documentaries and Téléjournal. I don't even watch CBC News anymore, though I listen to a lot CBC-Radio podcasts.
I try to watch TVO's The Agenda but they really need better guests. Janice "Gross" Stein all the time gets pretty boring.
...and I read the The Globe and Mail every morning, only mostly because it's the only national newspaper we've got.
Can't go wrong with The Simpsons. Daily show can be funny. I loathe the Colbert Report. Haven't read the Globe since Simpson started with the cod stocks (1994?).
ReplyDeleteHere's why I simply cannot stand to read Canadian newspapers: take a look at this typical Canadian media story picked at random from today's grey sludge of envy, pay attention to the part in bold:
"The January fiscal monitor appears to confirm that the surpluses enjoyed in recent years are unlikely to be matched for some time due to a combination of tax cuts and a slowing economy expected to grow just slightly above last year's 2.7 per cent rate."
www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080328/federal_surplus_080328/20080328?hub=Canada
OK, now I'm going to explain this slowly. An economy that is growing, at any rate, by definition, is not slowing. It is growing.
Now, last year we grew at 2.7%. Next year we are expected to grow faster, i.e., and I quote, "above last year's 2.7 per cent rate".
A growth rate in *excess* of last year's growth rate is, by definition, *not* slowing, in any way, shape, or form.
I'm sorry, but that is not an acceptable press. They don't, in fact, talk like that in America or the UK, or any OECD country.
Thats typical for Calgary TV. You know the streets only go one way out there?
ReplyDeleteThey don't, in fact, talk like that in America or the UK, or any OECD country.
ReplyDeleteOh, you know absolutely nothing about the media in OECD countries...particularly the awful tabloid press in the UK and the abysmal American media. The average American and Brit is probably less-informed (and far more provincial) than the average Canadian and what's worse, doesn't even know that he or she is uninformed.
When it comes to economics, everyone is mystified. Even the economists don't even know what they're doing anymore.
I read a newspaper because quiet, contemplative, non-interactive exposure to textual information is essential for proper information processing. It's no wonder a whole generation of people sound so ignorant and angry and come off like surly teenagers long after it ceased to be age-appropriate...they're all distracted, over-stimulated and have no real depth of knowledge.
I just wish they'd all just resign themselves to saying that sucks and then shut the fuck up afterwards.
Hey Ti-guy, speaking of the printed press - "Dion a dead man walking in Quebec?" in the Toronto Star by Chantal Hebert.
ReplyDeleteYou can keep your head in the sand about Dion's woes or you can face reality.
*yawn*
