Ottawa, ON – A new Ipsos Reid poll conducted exclusively on behalf of CanWest News Service and Global Television finds that a majority of Canadians support (23% strongly/33% somewhat) the opposition-led RESP tax-break bill, even though the government has argued that this bill might cause them to run a deficit.

However, Just 14% of Canadians Want Election Fought Over This Issue, Most (81%) Believe Parties Should ‘Find a Way to Avoid Election’
All of which means that the Lib strategy on the RESP--bring it forward, brand it Liberal, let the Gov. look mean-spirited and anti-education by killing it, but don't let it serve as an election trigger--has been sound.
Let the pundits sniff about "political ploys geared to embarrassing the Harper Tories" if they like. This one worked.
I just love, or loathe depending, how the Conservatives heads exploded over this one when they realized they'd been outflanked and out-thought by the Liberals. The screeching was enormous, of course in a truly hypocritical way, they completely ignored all of the political games Harper has played recently in their tirades.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that Ipsos polls are believed...they only put out polls to help conservatives and the conservatives do not want an election right now because of all their scandals.
ReplyDelete"outflanked and out-thought by the Liberals"
ReplyDelete. . . and then after they had fallen into the trap, Flaherty slammed the door on their winky and forced Steffi into another embarrassing white flag moment when he abandoned one of his own party in order to save his pathetic leadership.
Please keep on providing these moments of "outflanked and out-thought" . . . the amusement level is extreme.
Can someone point to one poll in history, where two years after an election, Canadians wanted to go to the polls?? It's like asking people if they want to go the dentist, the answers are pre-determined.

ReplyDeleteMaybe if you stopped recreating on your pain medication, you might find something more sophisticated to amuse yourself with.
Seriously, this one who refers to Dion as "Steffi" all the time gives me the creeps.
Well after all, ti-guy, there's nothing more insulting than insuinating a man is a woman, effeminate, gay or anything less than a heterosexual cowboy, Mr. Harper's less-than-overwhelming masculinity notwithstanding.
ReplyDeleteThat these people eagerly embrace misogyny in mocking Mr. Dion is, if nothing else, ample proof they can't be trusted over women's reproductive rights.
I bet Canadians didn't "want" an election in 1992 either. I do remember after the sponsorship scandal allegations surfaced the polls still showed that Canadians didn't "want" an election too.
ReplyDeleteOther than the press gallery, who really ever "wants" an election in this country? I don't think a party should decide to go to the polls based on opinion polls which say people don't want an election -- I don't think we'd ever vote then!
OK, you plainly state that you are think it is good that the Liberals pulled the wool over the eyes of the electorate with a cynical policy proposal. You're actually gloating about it, and dismissive of criticism that exposes it as the ploy that it is.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, except how do you expect anyone to believe you the next time you advocate a policy, such as fighting AGW? By your own admission you don't care if an issue is right or not, only if it sticks to Harper in a bad way and is cynical in its aims.
You just discredited yourself, permanently.

ReplyDeleteRB: It's not the misogyny...that kind of thing just angers me. It's the childishness of an adult communicating like this that creeps me out.

Christ...the scolding from the Harper-bots really is fucking precious. What the fuck do you think the Harpies have been doing for the last two years? Engaging in elaborate political theatre to keep the rubes among Conservatives sufficiently placated. And you guys KNOW that.
So spare us, please, douche-bag.

ReplyDeleteI prefer calling Dion "Peppermint Patty"
I should be able to get that, but I'm stymied.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that mean, Dainty?
Stephane "I'm sitting on my hands to keep them warm" Dion.
ReplyDeleteShe held the football and kept pulling it away before Charlie brown kicked it.
ReplyDeleteEach time she promised she wouldn't pull away
