Tory HQ Raided!

RCMP are conducting a raid on Conservative party headquarters in Ottawa on Tuesday in connection with an investigation into spending on election advertising.

Oh that I should be alive to witness such a glorious day! Rumor has it there's video of Harper doing the perp walk in an orange jump-suit.

Update: More detail from CTV.

  1. Don't get too over-enthusiastic. We all have to maintain a judicious sense of propriety while we let the squeals from law and order types about RCMP interference/Elections Canada machinations come to full froth. Those will be balanced out with numerous claims of "What's the Big Deal?" and of course a resugence of "Look over there...ADSCAAAAAAM!"

The first comment I saw over at CBC was about Liberal apparatchiks infesting public institutions...*sigh*

And Hillier stepping down? What's up with that?

  2. It's been said of NDPers that they are "Liberals in a hurry."

When it comes to corruption though, it's Conservatives who are Liberals in a hurry. At least Liberals wait until they're in office to become corrupt.

Everyone can get corrupted; that's what power and influence do. The only thing I've been seeing is that the Conservative rank-and-file will overlook it if it suits them. No Liberal I know ever excused the politicians for doing corrupt things (although I imagine Liberals that did are ones I wouldn't know very well); a lot of us mostly spent time trying to figure out the significance in terms of the grand scheme of things, and writing our MP's demanding explanations.

I believe the NDP would behave more ethically in office (although the federal government is an unknown quantity for them), but I've also seen that those who are paragons of moral rectitude also tend to project that onto others, and end up being too trusting and easily deceived and manipulated. Just ask Judy Wasylycia-Leis about that.

If only Harper would pass an "Act" that would, how you say, "Enable" him to deal with the clear and present danger to Canada in the form of a corrosively communist-infiltrated civil service, that would be cool.

Oh relax, I'm just kidding. War Measures will do fine.

Even if the RCMP find whatever it is EC sent them to look for it will somehow become "misplaced" before it reaches Mayrand's office.

You should have thought about blowing up mail boxes a while ago, then. Too late now, 'tata.

I think you'd be disappointed if that didn't happen.

  9. First dismissal spotted..."Christian Conservative" over at Warren Kinsella's:

"Tempest in a teapot... Elections Canada is on a fishing expedition to try and prove their "In and Out" case. Won't happen, because we did nothing wrong.

This will be a one or two day story... except on the Liblogs, who will be foaming at the mouth for a couple of days."

So maybe part of the raid was to look for evidence about the Friends of Science aspect?
