Can Harper Run On The Economy?

After inheriting a substantial surplus from the former Democratic administration, the Republicans have managed to drive the U. S. economy to near chaos. Sounds eerily familiar, doesn't it? Yes, the Harper Conservatives also inherited a fiscal surplus from the former Liberal government and, like their Republican cousins, they have squandered it all.

Very simple argument to make.

So, in answer: I think not.

  1. Sigh.... the Harper Conservatives inherited a fiscal surplus from the former Liberal government that was built up by ripping Canadians off by over charging EI at the source - I believe this was a multi-billion dollar surplus dating back to the late 1990's and a surplus which, the auditor general rightly demanded over five successive years that the Liberals should STOP ripping Canadians off. What did the Liberals do? Ignore the auditor general.

Look: your point is moot. Average voters have long memories and are not retarded individuals. It doesn't matter if a band of trained monkeys were running the government, we are in a global economic downturn *India and China excluded* and our globalized economy, one which the Liberals heartily endorsed during thirteen years in office is interwoven on a multitude of levels.

So lets make it clear - I doubt that Canadians give a rats ass that the Tories "squandered" the surplus because the Liberals ripped off Canadians to get the effing surplus in the first place. And now you want us to believe this bonehead carbon tax will be revenue neutral and that the auditor general will *monitor* the damned thing so it stays that way? Puhhhhf&#*ingleaze.....

According to every single polls, that I have seen it puts Mr.Harper far ahead who is better to lead on the economy,so in short yes they (Conservatives)can run on the economy. Especially when the Conservatives compaign against Mr.Dion's so called "Green Shit" where it will increase the price of enogy,in which it is in fact one of the big reason's of the economy slow down that we are going threw today.

  3. The single biggest reason why previous Liberal governments were able to bring in surpluses was the GST. A Conservative creation which the Libs had promised to kill.

  4. Keep whistling past the graveyard, Conservatards.

Rightists always screw up the economy because they know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Yes, right past the Fiberals hastily and thankfully burying themselves.

As opposed to leftists that screw up everything else besides because they know the price of nothing and the value of making other people pay for it.

  6. One thing about Conservatives governing during an economic downturn, all that Liberal frilly waste of taxpayer money gets slashed, to Conservatives delight and Canadians give the govt the nod on slashing senseless vote buying programs such as this:

''OTTAWA - The federal government will cancel a program today that sent artists abroad to promote Canadian culture because the program's grant recipients included "a general radical," "a left-wing and anti-globalization think-tank" and a rock band that uses an expletive as part of its name.''
