National News Watch says:
Reports that Bob Rae's Tory opponent, Chris Reid has stepped down.
Some speculation that it has something to do with posts made on his blog, which has been taken down, however, a cached page remains available Here.
I don't suppose this counts as 100% confirmed, but...
The Conservative candidates page now lists David Gentili as its candidate (here)
ReplyDeleteCredit goes to you BCL.
ReplyDeleteThe blogosphere is really making a difference in elections.
congrats
Yet more proof that blogs are having an impact. I just have to figure out why Garth Turner is still around because his blog is a thousand times more controversial than Reid's.
ReplyDeleteGood work gumshoe
ReplyDeleteThis should severely impact the Conservative's chances in Toronto Centre.. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives should have kept their first candidate.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that the (Progressive) Conservatives actually held this riding many moons ago. Mulroney 1984.
ReplyDeleteWell congratulations! You bagged some big game.
ReplyDelete(Now do it for a seat the Tories are actually competitive in.)
CBC now confirms.
ReplyDelete(CBC also mentions BCL)
ReplyDeleteHow you can be gay and for the conservatives is beyond me. It's like being black for the KKK.
ReplyDeleteThis riding has a lot of gay folks living in it, and to this we'd vote for him is the same as thinking Hillary supporters would flock to Palin.
It's patronizing stupid logic and I'm glad he'd gone.
I like how in The Star he, or the party, is claiming he is stepping down for reasons of not being able to commit to fours years in government. Nice try, as if he stood a chance against Bob Rae.
This is why the cons stall whenever they get close to a majority.
"A spokeswoman in the Tory campaign war room says Reid told the party he couldn't commit to serving four years in government."
ReplyDeleteWell neither could Stephen Harper, so what's the problem?
Apart from that, since Reid never had any chance of winning, or even finishing second, I don't see the problem.
The new guy sounds like fun.

Drunken mayhem erupts
While interviewing a group near the centre of the bar, David Gentili, known as a "hardcore, card-holding Conservative" by his friends, wobbled over to the table, grabbed my recorder and started shouting into it.
"How about you tell me what you're quoting me on and then I'll give you my name," said Gentili with a smirk.
After finally telling me how to spell his name, he gave a passionate political soliloquy.
"We need an elected senate," said Gentili. "Someone representing us should be voted by us. Do you like that?"
I'm not celebrating this (not really, since he never had a chance in that riding anyway). It would have been rather more principled for the Conservatives to defend the selection of this candidate (who, from all accounts, had pretty run-of-the-mill Conservative beliefs) and his sexuality meant absolutely nothing to me.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there's more here, but with Tory message discipline, we'll never find out.
It would have been rather more principled for the Conservatives to defend the selection of this candidate
ReplyDeleteSince when do Cons have principles?
Thanks for exposing him, BCL.
I should have written "principled."
ReplyDeleteOh, and Conservatives do so have principles. They have all of them.
Whooee! I seen yer smilin' mug on CTV Newsnet, M.J. Good goin'. Proves you don't need a gun to bring down a nutjob. Like some smartypants onec sed, the pen is mightier than the sword.
ReplyDeleteJB
Also did an interview for Global National, if anyone is interested. I guess that airs at 11.
