A Conservative Advises The New Tory Majority

Sell the CBC. Junk most of the cultural subsides. Get rid of the human rights Gestapo. These, in the end, are “stroke of the pen, law of the land” sort of things. If a Prime Minister with a majority government wishes them, they could be so.
[...]
Burn them down and salt the Earth. A future Liberal government won’t have the guts, the time, the wherewithal, or the money to recreate them all at once. Sell the land and the buildings. Shred the records. Disperse the staff. It’s easier to destroy than it is to create. A Tory government on a rampage could destroy in a couple of months what it took four decades to create – and what it would take another forty to recreate.
[...]
A large-scale buildup of the Armed Forces will do more than prepare Canada to fight in an increasingly-dangerous world, but it will also create a powerful military-industrial complex that a future Liberal government would be loathe to confront.
[...]
Build a pair of Aircraft Carriers – giant, expensive, deadly, and useful symbols of Canadian pride that children can hang on their walls. Name them after Wolfe and Montcalm or something like that.
[...]
What Harper needs is someone creatively evil to serve as the Justice Minister...to spend the next five years thinking up new ways of brutalize and humiliate criminals and which will send the left marching to the barricades time and time again to defend people who normal Canadians hate.

So there's your hidden agenda. And here's a link to that strategic voting site again.

  2. What I can never figure out is, do they just refuse to believe that Harper will do all this? Or is this really what they want him to do?

It makes me physically nauseous to think that Canadians are just blithely, willingly marching down this road when we KNOW where it leads. We just have to look south of the border, or at the shambles that Harris left in Ontario that we're STILL cleaning up.

And all because Dion doesn't speak perfect English. Jesus, maybe we really are stupid.

  3. We're not stupid. This really does make me think of Germany during a certain time in history. You'd think we'd know better but it seems at least that 36% voting for Harper hates the rest of us.

This goes way beyond politics. It's hatred for Canada and it's citizens.

  4. It really is depressing. It also shines a light on how vulnerable our FPTP voting system is to a power grab of the sort that Harris and Harper abuse.

Harper is no idiot when it comes to political manipulation. He purposely framed the whole election as one of "leadership" knowing full well that his own caucus is full of idiots that should never have risen beyond School Board politics. It's also feeding off the discontent that the Liberals continued to express in their own leader. And I am none to pleased that Layton decided to play this game straight out of the gate.

"A Harris/Decima rolling poll has this week placed the Liberals in fourth place in British Columbia, behind not just the leading Conservatives and surging NDP, but also the Green Party. The Liberals were at 15 per cent, although the relatively wide margin of error for the B.C. sample makes it more an indicator of relative strength than a precise measure"

Another stake ready to be pounded through the black heart of the LPC

    What's that smell ?

    Political gangrene has set in.

A small-government advocate such as myself could make a very similar argument that FPTP makes the system very vulnerable to a takeover by someone such as Trudeau, which Liberals would be quite happy with - and that's why we didn't see a change of the system (unfortunately) in Ontario's referendum.

With any luck Adam T. Yoshida is someone who has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's well being whatsoever. His comments on criminals and creating a military industrial complex in Canada are downright disturbing.

We should stop blaming each other so much. This is exactly what happens to a populace numbed by a mass culture in which critical thinking has little value.

What I'm most concerned about is these people will be the first to have their hands in your pocket when the whole thing comes crashing down.

Actually, Liberals would be quite happy with someone who's progressive and capable of handling the complexities of governance that are specific to the times. Not people who think, like Harper (and, oh I don't know...Ayn Rand) that governance is a matter of agreeing with everything that springs from their beautiful minds.

Didn't hear too much whinging when Cruton won elections with 37/38 percent of the vote.

Such a different perspective being on the losing side this time.

I suppose reminding ADD-afflicted Conservatives that the Liberals lost the last election would be futile, wouldn't it?

We are so screwed. A whole generation of dimwits and berzerkers who even think they be in charge is disturbing enough.

Since you dudes are all weepy & sad over the impending and much anticipated death of the Liberal Party of Canada, why not have a little Global Warming reality kick in the gonads at the same time :)

"Our greatest greenhouse gas is water. Atmospheric spectroscopy reveals why water has a 95 percent and CO2 a 3.6 percent contribution to the "greenhouse effect."
Carbon dioxide emissions worldwide each year total 3.2 billion tons. That equals about 0.0168 percent of the atmosphere's CO2 concentration of about 19 trillion tons. This results in a 0.00064 percent increase in the absorption of the sun's radiation. This is an insignificantly small number. The yearly increase is many orders of magnitude smaller than the standard deviation errors for CO2 concentration measurement."

    Fish, barrel, shoot.

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood, a wonderful day.

    Suckahs.

Exactly. Don't bother with any sort of introspection as to why Canadian voters are rejecting you.

    Sulk. Pout. Exaggerate.

What time in German's history would that be? Do we get three guesses? LMAO

    Good morning there liberals.

I just dropped in to tell you that I feel your pain and I am quite enjoying it.

Four years of Harper and this country will look a lot less like a welfare state and more like an adult driven capitalist democracy.

Finally the universe is unfolding as it should.

Ayn Rand would be proud of us.
