Dawg's Wrong

Palestinian fighters fire their rockets at Israeli civilians. Israeli planes drop their bombs on Palestinian civilians.

The Israelis have better weapons. You expect them not to use those weapons?

There are no heroes today in the Gaza Strip. Just different varieties of asshole.

  1. I'm wrong if you believe that shooting fish in a barrle, only they aren't fish, but people, is morally permissible.

Nine Israeli citizens dead in more than four years from Kassams. Hundreds of dead Palestinians in Gaza alone, and let's not forget hundreds more Lebanese a short time ago either.

Tell me, BCL: if you needed to eat grass or pull garbage out of a dumpster to feed yourself and your family, wouldn't you feel like throwing something at the folks starving you, at least?

  2. Dawg,

Yeah, only nine, but because Hamas is so restrained or because their aim sucks?

    Dawg writes:

"Tell me, BCL: if you needed to eat grass or pull garbage out of a dumpster..."

Yeah yeah yeah I've read all about this kind of stuff. Should Israel have just sent one plane over? Dropped two bombs? What? How many dead would be the result of a "proportional" response?

I hate to think I'm siding with Damian here but both sides play the same game using dead civilian bodies as chits. You're pissed, it seems to me, because the Iraelis are playing the game better at the moment.

For a little bit more, go here. I understand that sometimes it's easier to just stick our head in the sand and bury our conscience.

"Palestinian fighters fire their rockets at Israeli civilians. Israeli planes drop their bombs on Palestinian civilians. "

not quite. Israel carefully targets Hamas terrorist targets. Unfortunately for the regular Palestinians, the Hamas scum place their military installations in civilian areas, because they WANT civilians to die as collateral damage.

Dawg just can't handle the truth.

Dawg is not alone in condemning what is going on in Gaza.

  6. Wasn't that long ago that Dawgy used a Latuff cartoon to illustrate the suffering of the Gazan people, and to no doubt underscore his own view that Israel has no right to exist or defend its civilian population against attack.

    See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Latuff

I can certainly see now that it was no accident that he did so.

He actually has the nerve to bring up the equivalency argument That the jihadists should get a pass shooting rockets at civilians across a border because their terror weapons aren't as efficient as Israeli F-16's and the body count is lower.

I've heard this kind of argument before. But usually only from dyed-in-the-wool antisemites.

    Doesn't impress me one bit

  7. The Hamas rocket attacks that have killed no one:The rocket attacks were undoubtedly "deeply disturbing" to Israelis. But so too are the checkpoints, the road closures, the restricted movement, the terrible joblessness, the unflinching oppression, the daily humiliations, the illegal settlement -- I'm sorry, "outpost construction", "deeply disturbing" to the Palestinians, and far more injurious. And the 300 dead Palestinians should be disturbing to us all.

There is nothing proportionate in this response. No way to fit it into a larger strategy that leads towards eventual peace. No way to fool ourselves into believing that it will reduce bloodshed and stop terrorist attacks. It is simple vengeance. There's a saying in the Jewish community: "Israel, right or wrong." But sometimes Israel is simply wrong.

  8. BCL, I get the impression you are not really interested in this.

So why don't you just leave it alone?
"A plague on both their houses" is an empty dismissal.

  9. The Wikipedia article isn't bad.

"Harry," who goes by various other names in the blogosphere, seems blissfully unaware that the "proportionality" argument was used by that vile anti-Semite Nicholas Sarkozy, and noted (admittedly with approval) in my post.

So the counter-argument, then, is that Israel can do anything it bloody well wants. Even nukes shouldn't be counted out, I guess.

"Kidnap" one of our soldiers? Hey, we'll start a war, kill 1,000 or so people, destroy Lebanon's infrastructure, and make a third of the population homeless.

Harper called that a "measured response." You're in good company, BCL.

  10. "Dr. Dawg" giving me a hard time for posting on the internet using the occasional pseudonym?

Think about that one for a moment.

The Hamas propaganda machine at work. Posing uninjured kids next to a Gaza bombing casualty.

    Nice trick.

  11. Nothing to think about. I use a single nom de plume; anyone with access to Google and ten seconds to spare can find out who I am readily enough.

"Harry," on the other hand, uses several sockies. So he can, at this point, accuse me of anti-Semitism with impunity.

My challenge to this coward: uncloak, and we'll let the civil courts work this thing out.

  12. Dawg,

It isn't hard to figure out who "Harry" is either. I know this subject makes otherwise reasonable people talk silly, but can we not get all diva-ish?

  13. Maybe I'm thick, but I have no idea who Harry--or his various other sockies--is/are in meatlife. Perhaps you can enlighten me b/c.

In any case, it's not diva-ish, but a serious concern about by professional life, that bids me finally confront the "anti-Semite" lie head on. From now on, anyone pulling that crap, once I identify him/her, will be getting my Statement of Claim.

wv= "jewortle," believe it or not.
