NDP And Reform: Together At Last

"Joining the B.C. New Democratic Party in vowing to axe the tax is the Reform Party of B.C., who have adopted the slogan, “We ♥ CO2.”"

Also lining up behind the NDP in railing against the carbon tax are the B.C. Conservatives, who have made the issue one of the six main planks of their platform.

And another 1st: NDP policy gets a prominent write-up on IceCap, the premier Climate Change Denialist site. They must be so proud.

  1. Isn't it nice to see naked political opportunism being exposed?

"Prominent environmentalist and longtime NDP supporter Tzeporah Berman fired off an angry e-mail to Carole James Thursday, attacking the Opposition leader for putting politics before the planet by opposing Premier Gordon Campbell's carbon tax. Berman told James she feels "deeply betrayed" by the NDP.

"You have put politicking before the planet in the most hypocritical fashion," she wrote.

"I have had to watch the embarrassing display as you pulled a 180 on your earlier strong positions to the reactionary ones you advocate now," Berman said in the e-mail, obtained by The Vancouver Sun."

In her e-mail, Berman accused the NDP under James of flip-flopping on the carbon tax, saying the party pledged in 2007 to support carbon taxes. She referred to a comment from James in early 2008, calling for a "revenue-neutral carbon tax."

  2. I don't understand why we don't have a strong carbon tax here. Add a $1 to a litre! Maybe we should also add a few grand to the price of a car as well. What's wrong with using your bike?

  3. Do you guys just selectively chose articles that validate your partisanship.
    i.e...
"The Vancouver Sun reported that the “longtime NDP supporter” quit the party to protest its opposition to British Columbia’s first-in-North-America carbon tax"...

Berman is not a long time NDP member period

..."a top NDP official told The Tyee that Berman’s membership expired at least two full years before Premier Gordon Campbell’s government introduced the carbon tax, and well before the New Democrats launched their “Axe the Tax” campaign"...

As for the Carbon tax its not going to reduce carbon emissions one fucking bit.I notice you seem to also conveniently forget that the Liberals other policies like choosing freeway expansion over transit, sounds green to me.Then there's the fact that transit fare's are the highest in the country. Its cheaper to drive than take a bus or the Skytrain, yep the Liberals are green.
On top of it all there is this rather inconvenient fact, again that you chose to ignore in your haste to play politics

You should email the 98% of environmentalists (yes, SELECTIVE indeed) and tell them how wrong they are, not to mention their hyper partisan slants. People that turn this into a partisan debate are trying to deflect the genuine concerns of people who's only thought process is reducing GHG's.

If this partisan, it's because people are on the defensive and trying to mask their opportunism by discrediting the messenger. About all I see being achieved, the NDP are harming themselves with green voters.

O that's what the NDP/I am doing,I thought the message was already discredited. Please surly you are not going to sit there and tell me this tax on gas and hearing oil will lower carbon emissions, particularly when one factors in other Liberal policies, which will add even more carbon.
Look Steve I am no party hack,I do believe global warming is a problem and action must be taken. The Liberals and their supporters are playing politics here, remember the May 12 election
