Someone In The Harper Gov. Laying Muscle On The Irvings?

Yesterday we get this story-- Tories talk teamwork to salvage shipbuilding--in which "four federal cabinet ministers" lasso Canada's largest shipbuilders, one of these being the Irving-owned Halifax Shipyards, and "encourage" them to "work together" to salvage a number of Tory sponsored defense projects.

Today, we get a grovelling apology out of the Irving-owned Telegraph Journal re wafer-gate. In addition, the names of the newspaper’s editor, Shawna Richer, and the publisher, Jamie Irving, are off the masthead in this morning's edition. Quite odd, as there is at least some independent evidence that Harper did not in fact eat the communion wafer immediately, and unless Monsignor Brian Henneberry, vicar general and chancellor in the Diocese of Saint John, was wildly mis-quoted, then both of the statements the TJ has retracted have at least some support.

Stephen Taylor suggests that TJ reporters Rob Linke and Adam Huras threatened legal action against their own paper. It occurs to me, though, that its just as likely the Tories are applying legal pressure to an Irving owned newspaper as a means of getting its shipbuilders to fall in line.

Seems to me the pressure would be the other way around if this were the case. And the retraction in the Telegraph-Journal means they won't keep going after Harper for committing deicide...or failing to commit...or whatever happens when you don't eat the Body of Christ. I was alway fuzzy on that...

  4. Uhm, I heard a completely unverified comment that an umportant liberal from Atlantic Canada who is senior in the opposition leader's office had pressured his friend Jamie Irving to cover the story of the wafer from the very start.

  5. We are certainly not hearing the full story. It doesn't take 20 days for the T-J to decide whether a story is properly substantiated.

But the Irvings being muscled? The Irvings are die-hard Liberals. I suspect they would rather rip their fingernails out then let themselves be pushed around by conservatives.

so the editor and publisher invent parts of a story to juice it up.

They lie, they tell their readers things that not only didn't happen but that in fact were created by these self acclaimed "Progressive" journalists so they would have a better story.

At least the paper had the brains to fire these two skanky fuckwad pathetic excuses for "journalists

But the best you and your butt-buddy kinsella come up with some whack conspiracy theory. Brilliant.

Let's just hope that these two journalists spend the rest of their working careers asking real people if they want fries wit their order.

  9. From Bob Fife on yesterdays late news..

"Lisa, most of us will remember the story that went all around the world about the prime minister apparently not eating the host when he was at the funeral of former governor general Romeo LeBlanc. That story was first published in the St John Telegraph Journal which is owned by the billionaire Irving family. The prime minister hit the roof. Well, today, a grovelling apology from the paper. They said the story was not true. So what happened? Well, I'm told that the Liberals passed the story to young Jamie Irving who was the publisher of the paper. He passed it to the editor who put it in the paper without checking it out, and today the editor has been fired, and Jamie's father has suspended his son for thirty days, and I'm told the prime minister is pretty thrilled with that."

    Spin that.

Some bigwig Liberals have some explaining to do..

  10. "Harper put the host in his pocket. He never consumed it."

That's how you can spin it. It's just like Global Warming denialism. It'll work well on right wingers.

  11. Catsmeat Kinsella can try to spin this all he wants, but the facts - as reported by the paper itself - is that it completely made up the story. There is no evidence to the contrary. I suspect that the Irving family is pretty pissed at Catsmeat and Iggy for letting him off his leash. The Liberal higher-ups have some serious explaining to do. At least Harper had the class to appologize to Iggy when he mis-quoted him. Iggy has no class, he hides in France while he lets Catsmeat run amateurish black-ops. Pathetic.

  12. Anyone who uses the term "Catsmeat" reveals that he has recently spent the weekend in Arnie Shaidle's rectum.

    How does it smell, Nathan?

    Soooooo, Kursk,

First Fife is told the Prime Minister hit the roof and then Fife is told that now the Prime Minister is thrilled about Jamie Irving's suspension....heh. That's a lot of fifetelling by 'nonymous "Tory" over at the liberal biased msm if you ask me...
