Update: The Answer appears to be that he was bleeding originally. But then there is an absence of blood between his release and CBC interview, when the blood returns.
And yes I did edit some of this post without adding strike throughs, because I don't like strike throughs.
CBC notes that protester Jeh Carter acquired a bloody nose sometime after leaving Parliament Hill and before being interviewed by CBC.
PS. he's definitely not bleeding here.
Akins tells it differently here. But this (note: Jeh Custer=Jeh Carter):
One of those arrested, Jeh Custer of Edmonton, was seen bleeding from the mouth after his head struck the concrete walls inside the House of Commons. Custer was observed with his hands handcuffed behind his back, being escorted by two uniformed RCMP officers into the basement in Parliament Hill's Centre Block.
Doesn't seem likely likely unless Jeh cleaned up his mouth and added blood later.
Update: David Akin says our guy was indeed bleeding inside the HOC. But then there is still a period in which Carter/Custer is bloodless, and then shows up bloody again at the CBC interview.
Update Again: All of which doesn't explain where his injuries came from in the first place.
Even More Update: CBC's Janyce McGregor mucked up her times in original article. First shot (bloodless) is from about 4:38pm (not 2:38), CTV's bloodied shot from 5:17. Pretty clear the blood is coming from over the nose in 2nd shot.
A warmer faking?
ReplyDeleteIs there reporting to suggest that the protester in question is a member of the NDP? Or that the NDP had some involvement in the protest?
ReplyDeleteJoe Cressy has apparently showed up at a number of NDP events. Doubt the party itself knew.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/bureau-blog/flash-mobster-exposed/article1339767/
He is wearing the same shirt in both pictures I think.
ReplyDeleteDid you edit out the shirt reference BCL?
ReplyDeleteYour're right, Holly. Also, Akins says he was bleeding inside HOC.
ReplyDeleteI edited out shirt reference.
ReplyDeleteBleeding from mouth and later blood on nose and higher. And there is that space between. I'm curious; for the interview with Solomon, would someone normally put makeup on the inerviewees, a bit of powder for the cameras?
ReplyDeleteOh, it is Jeh Custer and he's a member of Sierra Club, prairie chapter. http://thegreenpages.ca/portal/ab/2009/07/tar_sands_oil_remains_dirty_de.html
Any evidence that he is an NDP member?
I'd be more likely to suspect the protesters to be aligned with the party whose leader jumped in front of the cameras immediately after the event, if any.
ReplyDeleteHolly,
ReplyDeleteOnly that he was with a set or protesters led by a known NDP-type activist. Are you going to make me edit again?
Well, your title makes an unwarranted assumption. And both the NDP and the Sierra Club could trot out the usual weaselly rightwing excuse: "It was just a few bad apples, Yer Honour! Don't blame all of us!"
ReplyDeleteIs changed. You are a very stern muse.
ReplyDeleteHeh. Here's Sierra Club info about him:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sierraclub.ca/prairie/about_us.htm
And he apparently has been getting up some people's noses over Syncrude's duck die off:

and Stelmach and Wall:

A conspiracy theorist might wonder why he in particular got the bloody nose; did security have his picture? But as the clean-face video shows, he was acting as a leader so may have gotten more attention whether they knew him or not.
Bloody mouth, not nose; the bloody nose has not been explained yet. (Since I'm being all nitpicky today.)
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's been squeezed down from a tube under his hat. Or, the assailant asked him politely to remove his glasses before whacking him.
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing. We live in a democracy - an imperfect democracy, but, well, there you have it.
ReplyDeleteWhich means that we won't get everything we want, even as strongly as we feel about it.
Peaceable protest is fundamental as well to democracy. And that includes offensive protest - however, that is also subject to the right of the state to remove those who are disrupting the ordinary business of government or the normal use of public property.
I mean.. in some respects its similar to the "tea party" types. It's fine to protest, but when you're only point is disruption, well, you're not contributing to the debate and really, your just discrediting your cause.
Original and thought-provoking commentary, Rob.
ReplyDeleteThank god for the internet.
Rob, in a democracy the elected representatives are supposed to pay attention to the people they represent. They aren't.

No kidding. How else would you be able to relive the experience of being scolded in high school by the principal?
That's how every single right winger sounds these days...like a finger-wagging school marm.
Next time you hold a protest, kids...smash every damn window in the Centre Block. Nothing gets the attention of the Right more than when property gets "hurt."
Taber says Cressy was not one of the leaders. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/bureau-blog/blood-and-belonging/article1340419/
ReplyDeleteI was so narcotized by the hackneyed tedium of Rob's comment I didn't even notice the scolding.
ReplyDeleteThe guy should start a blog or something.
Sad and pathetic fraud which too many will justify for a "cause." Shenanigans like this cost credibility for whatever the protester feels he or she is supporting.
ReplyDeleteRob, in a democracy the elected representatives are supposed to pay attention to the people they represent. They aren't.
ReplyDeleteTrouble is leftists and warmers think they are the only ones who should be listened to and they're willing to disrupt to prove it. Look at all the attempts to shut down unpopular speakers on university campuses.

He worked himself into a frothing lather today over Ignatieff's tiny tot story time.
Just imagine what these people would do if Canada had real problems?
I hope they have the opportunity soon to find out.
Trouble is leftists and warmers think they are the only ones who should be listened to and they're willing to disrupt to prove it. Look at all the attempts to shut down unpopular speakers on university campuses.
ReplyDeleteWell, stop saying stupid, fucked-up things then and maybe the rest of us (not just lefties) will think you're worth listening to.
Like the rest of us are supposed to sit around quietly and nod politely while everything we think is important is dismissed variously as nazism, totalitarian communism, genocide, terrorism, jihad, pedophilia, etc. etc.
So my dear wife says Custer has produced a Dr.s note claiming his nose wound is legit. Haven't seen anything online. Was supposed to be on CBC radio. Guys apparently got a scar on his nose. Anyone produce proofs and I will post on it.
ReplyDeletethe nose wound may be legit, but it was caused AFTER he left Parliament, and BEFORE he went to CBC. No way it would not be bleeding as he left Parliament if it was caused just before that time.
ReplyDeleteIf it's right under his glasses, then it's possible the glasses could rub it and cause more bleeding.
ReplyDeleteApparently Solomon talked to him again tonight; haven't seen it though.
Holly, did a new post.
ReplyDeleteSo the wound over the eye seems real. There's video of him in the basement of the HOC, bleeding proudly.
Then the wound is gone when he leaves the HOC.
Then its back when he's on CBC, and almost exactly the same as previous.
I'm beginning to wonder about CBC on this. Was this guy sitting in their building bleeding...for how long? I've been on TV once or twice, and if I came to the place bleeding, you'd think they would ask me to take a few minutes in the Mens.
http://bigcitylib.blogspot.com/2009/10/see-protester-bleed.html
Asz I said on the new post, I think it is in the raw footage but very fuzzy. So what was CBC up to? Where is the person who shot the film, and the security guards who walked out with the kids?
ReplyDeleteThe person shooting the film is supposed to be a protester. CBC says it was given to them.
ReplyDeleteYou mean the film of them walking? Wouldn't CBC have the camera person's name?
ReplyDelete
