Adam Radwanski on the search for a narrative:
"...the Liberals have recently had some success highlighting the Conservatives' propensity to disproprtionately reward their own ridings, and more recently to reward fellow Tories with patronage appointments. The question now is whether that's a narrative they're going to invest some real time in."
The opening paragraph of the next chapter?
OTTAWA - A Montreal firm landed a federal stimulus contract while a top Tory organizer and senator was on the payroll, The Canadian Press has learned.
Senator Leo Housakos's employer, BPR Inc., was part of a consortium that won a $1.4-million engineering contract to study the future of Montreal's aging Champlain Bridge.
[...]
Public Works Minister Christian Paradis announced $212 million in funding for the bridge - and a competition for the engineering contract - on May 20, the same day Housakos was stage-managing a major Conservative fundraiser in Montreal.
The Canadian Press obtained a copy of the guest list for one of the special VIP receptions that was held just before the main fundraising event.
The 48-person list included four senior executives from BPR and the winning consortium, BCDE.
Counter-narrative: "But teh Liberalz dided it two!"
ReplyDeleteMore grist for the narrative mill.
ReplyDeleteThe Harper government spent well over $100,000 staging a one-hour event in June to deliver an update on its efforts to help the recession-ravaged economy.
Invoices obtained by The Canadian Press through the Access to Information Act show a nominal bill to taxpayers of $108,000 for the carefully scripted "town hall" meeting in Cambridge, Ont.
Can we define narrative?
ReplyDeleteCan someone ask the Pollsters to stop publishing those off script narratives.
I do applaud the CBC, Toronto Star, many Lib blogger jumping on the novelty cheque scandal!
Almost as funny as the wafer, olympic logo scandals.
It will lead back to Adscam and Billion dollar boondoggle comparisons like HR Jane Stewart.
Funny how that framing OCCAMS razor can be so effective.
Hey, why stop there

TONY BOCK/TORONTO STAR
Thousands of billboards touting federal spending on urban renewal projects will be sprouting across the country in the weeks ahead as the Harper government continues a wholesale publicity blitz of efforts to counter the economic bust.
The Conservatives are planning to break new ground by using huge dollops of taxpayers' money to purchase billboards linking the Economic Action Plan announced in the Jan. 27 budget to infrastructure projects from one end of the country to the other, sources say.

RuralSandi,
ReplyDeletethose six people holding signs was devasting. Reminds me of a post from Steve mocking those students who showed up to protest at WLU.
I am looking forward to those thousands of demostrators objecting to money for projects in their ridings.
It was funny how that reporter reminded David his own brother was all over the provincial website.
The confused look and realization that many provincial Liberal ridings are benefitting from EAP oversized cheque photo ops should make for some very embarrasing moments next week in the HOC.
Mayb Dalton and those Liberals should apologize along with those photoshop challenged CPC MP's who are publicity hogs!
David also suggested it would be better if the CPC allowed the NDP and Liberals to attend those photo ops. Priceless.
