Thanks...Assholes!

At first I thought the hacked e-mails would damage the outcome of the Copenhagen Climate Conference, but now I think these outrageous crimes may serve to bring world leaders and negotiators closer together.

Obama, K. Rudd, et. al would not show up for a failure, so you can be sure that something in the way of an agreement will come out of Copenhagen, and the world will call it a victory. Mind, alot of what was promised and what is needed will not be in this agreement, and there will stuff in the agreement that nobody promised and that really isn't needed. Everyone will get less than they think they deserve. Like marriage, in other words, and really just a first step towards something, hopefully, a wee bit better.

Meanwhile, here's a clip of head denier Marc Morano in action. For about two minutes, the tv host and guest professor Andrew Watson vainly try to stop him from babbling like a kid on a sugar high, and at the very end an exasperated Watson bestows the richly deserved epithet of "asshole" upon him.

Only in America (and, to be fair, only in certain parts) would this be called debating.

And damned if the guy doesn't remind me of a slightly less dorky-looking Ezra Levant.

  1. Telling Morono to "shut up" was the best part, really. This should be happening more often with these obnoxious American blowhards who are interrupting, giggling and sighing off-camera while other people are talking.

  2. The warmers have 'lost it' when they descend to epithets.

Obama is showing up for a photo op on the last day on his way to pick up his prize. Of course there will be something to sign and wave around in front of the cameras. There has been too much money spent and hype generated not to have something. Probably a non-binding 'agreement in principle', details to be hammered out whenever.

The fact is public opinion in the developed world has been changing against the alarmists. And this before Climategate had even begun to be reported in the MSM.

Any climate treaty that doesn't include the US and China isn't worth the paper. Notwithstanding The Obammessiah the US Senate will not approve a treaty which undermines US sovereignty and excludes China. China (and India) for its part has said it will not agree to any reduction commitments and demands billions from the developed world. This whole thing is, as Jim Hansen called it, "a farce".

  3. In other news, Peter Mackay is a liar:

Sworn testimony by senior Canadian officers and rare uncensored documentary evidence contradict Defence Minister Peter MacKay's repeated assertions that no proof exists of even a single case of a Canadian-transferred detainee abused by Afghan security forces.

    Though that's hardly news.

  5. Anyone who uses words like "Obammessiah" should not be complaining about epithets or changing the channel.

Though I love it when someone actually suggests the "epithet" was used because the professor cannot debate the point. He can debate the point, it is just that the other person in the debate did not want people to hear what the professor had to say.

  6. In a way it's a shame Obama is going to be there. hidethedecline is wrong to say that "Any climate treaty that doesn't include the US and China isn't worth the paper." At this point, any treaty including the U.S. (and probably China, for that matter) will almost certainly only BE a virtually meaningless scrap of paper.

Regardless of the fact that one group of scientists decided to play fast and loose with their data, we are now past the point where rhetorical posturing is of any benefit to us. A treaty even less ambitious than Kyoto, and which will likely meet the same sad fate, is of less use to humanity at this point than the wake-up call that a complete failure at Copenhagen would be.

Instead, we will get a "Copenhagen Accord" that retrogressive governments like America's and Canada's will be able to trot out for years in the place of real reforms.

Obama won't show up for a failure?

He's going back because he didn't get enough of his ass kicked during his Bringing the Olympics to Chicago" trip.

Barry switched to the last day so he can bail if he has to. Copenhagen could end up being a political disaster that needs much distancing fro. Obama is cynical enough to figure that out.

A whole world held hostage to these two countries locked in a death-spiral of over-supply and debt-fuelled demand.

For the record, I don't care at all whether we get an agreement that is worthless. In fact, I welcome it. If the catastrophe is inevitable, I'd rather have it sooner than later.

For someone with a wicked sense of humour, you seem to be easily amused, BCL.

    I envy you.

  11. Morano does remind one of Levant, Baird, Van Loan and every other doughy yappy rightwing political wanker; their mothers didn't tell them to shut up often enough.

That's kind of my point. I'm not at all interested in a charade which secures a paper "agreement" by trading away anything of substance to placate China and America and their various hangers-on, like (Harper's) Canada.

Yeah, I understood it. I was just commenting on what is likely the motivation for an agreement that won't do much at all, since both China and the US have a vested interested in delaying anything while they hope the disastrous creditor/debtor relationship resolves itself somehow.

Canada's just along for the ride, sad to say.

Good thing they write themselves, eh asshole? Because there is no one literate left in the GOP.

Of course, this is all the result of 8 eight years of adminstrative/congressional mismanagement in which the Republicans played the lead role. The GOP can also be grateful that at least 50% (and likely higher) of the American population are too stupid to remember that and too morally bankrupt to care.

  18. "The US borrowing from China in order to pay China. The Republican attack ads almost write themselves."

Yet it was the Republicans who have drowned the US into the debt it now possesses thanks to 25 years of banking deregulation, trickle-down voodoo economics, globalization, and two long-term unsustainable wars.

The GOP are the fiscal conservatives? BULLSHIT!!!

They are nothing but a coalition of neo-liberal economists, populist douche-bags, and religious crazies ...and they can't fall off the face of the political-earth fast enough for me.

  19. Um, HidetheDecline, the Republicans are no less guilty of indebtedness than the Democrats. They can claim legitimately that they kept the leash on spending during the Clinton years when they controlled both houses. But once Gingrich retired and W got in, any semblance of fiscal responsibility went out the window.

  20. See, now to me, 'curse' sounds totally British.

Well it isn't. The British tend to to say "swear," like we do.
