9000% of Globe Columnists Can't Do Math

Scott has the story ...of rampant innumeracy at Canada's only non-bankrupt national newspaper.

  1. Great minds... (It comforts me to think of that way.)

  2. And following Dan Cook's sneer:

"Editor's Note: Thanks for your interest in commenting on this article, however we are no longer accepting submissions."

    Die faster, media. Please.

  3. Here's how the Globe deals with their mistake. Much like Harper himself......duck and cover:

  4. Here's another sneering and tedious bore

Because of those two, I joined the FaceBook group, which is the only thing I've ever done with that account.

I refuse to socialise online. I'd never leave the basement if I did!

  5. The right wing argument - only 30,000 people when we have a pop of 32,000,000.

Not all of those 32 million are eligible votes. Kids, non-citizens, etc. are part of the population.

  6. It appears Dan did notice the little stink raised on his math (or the online editors did) and changed his math without comment or notice of editing.I will snarkily mention he's basing that percentage on the old 20 000 number; the group's now at 33 722 members as of this update.

  7. Did you email him, Scott?

  8. I updated the blogpost. I think emailing him probably wouldn't do much good.

  9. Well, he couldn't claim no one brought the error to his attention.

I love emailing the journos and pointing out their errors. They're so reliably petulant, their outbursts, if nothing else, are a treat and usually discourage one from feeling unduly guilty over the demise of their industry.

  10. Interesting that all the people who linked to the blog post changed the number as well. Bourque. NN. Somebody made an effort.

  12. The Globe and Mail may be non-bankrupt now but if they keep giving us even more Margaret Wente and publishing idiot's articles like Maude Barlow's Ashamed to wear the Maple Leaf drivel she upchucked in today's paper, they won't be long in business.

Ti-Guy has joined the Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament Facebook group? What commitment! Is that really the name of the group? Powerful.

Ti, is that in addition to the Wow! Have you had your hair cut?....No. It magically fell off idiot group and the I just realized immature spells I'm mature group?

Nothing says "seriously committed to political action" like Facebook.
    Hee hee.

  13. I don't know what to make of Cook's latest update:
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/blogolitics/grassroots-fury-limps-across-the-nation/article1420857/

    Does this guy get paid???

  14. As noted along with Dan Cook's post, The Globe invites one to email this quadruple-threat ("writer, blogger, broadcaster and raconteur"):

    dcook@globeandmail.com.

I suggest people do. And tell him to can it...or explain that last post, which, as usual for the punditocracy, is so mystifying that it means everything and nothing. Be nice. Mention how pretty and full his lips are.

Seriously, the journos are really, really bitter at people for refusing to pay for their crap anymore. Maybe we need to institutionalise them all for a while in order for them to have a chance to recuperate so they can face unemployment and retraining in a better frame of mind.
