A Poll For The Freeping

Was Stephen Harper right to prorogue Parliament for two months?

On no less than Castanet, where Stockwell Day posts his weekly column.

PS. Freeping an online poll is a meaningless exercise. You should feel ashamed for casting those multiple "no" votes!

By they way. Your welcome, David Akin. You don't even have to thank me.

PS. You might find you have to do a very basic "sign up" before voting.

  1. How does 17 days become two-four months?

I understand Liberals have a serious problem with math but counting calendar day is basic.

Are Liberals using a different calendar?

  2. CR,

What calender do you use? Can you explain how 17 days become 2-4 months?

James Curran another Liberals admitted he can't count either.

    CR,
this is not China, and BCL does not censor, delete dissenting posts. Try other Liberal bloggers who are censor their blogs and can't handle the truth.

Best of luck in remedial math.

Parliament was suppose to come back on Jan. 25. It's now scheduled to be back on March 3, 2010.

How do the 17 days figure into this? I've seen someone argue that they would take time off for the Olympics, but as far as I can tell, especially the comments BigLib posted from MP Schellenberger, they weren't going to take the time off (Schellenberger's cheering the fact he'll get to see the games now).

Even if this was true (and it's apparently not), this doesn't explain all the legislation that was essentially lost and have to be voted on again.

  4. Sharon are you including the 2 weeks for the Olympics agreed to by all parties?

I have no problem with being critical on CPC polices, honest debate.

This one is being pushed like H1N1, Novelty cheques.

    TofKW,

Those are some very impressive points. I can also recycle the same story of a few polls when the Liberals were ahead (honeymoon).

I can talk about how prepared the Liberals are to visit the voters and punish the CPC gov't.

Instead I like to focus on important details.

Money, grassroots, nominations (not sexy enough for some)

How many contributors have joined the Liberals since MI was given the leadership?

How many nominations are done? (December 2009-December 2010)

Once we get past the headlines, the facts are clear of how unprepared the LPOC to fight another campaign.

Remember Rossi was brought in to "fix" those finances?

    Follow the money.

The best time was Jan 2009 before the stimulus or solution was passed and supported by the Liberals. (Budget).
Bob Rae and some real politicians understood 'timing' and not allowing CPC to recover.

  5. Geez CS - going into rants about Lib financing and other such nonsense doesn't cleanse Harper of anything.

17 days, 22 days - doesn't matter, it's the reason that matters and it's not pretty on Harper's part.

So, just keep trolling with your little negative rants and notes - it changes absolutely nothing and Harper doesn't suddently become pure and clean.

  6. RS,

    Why are you so angry?

Accurate and factual reporting is very important and should be a concern if the fourth estate can't count.

As a partisan RS I accept you refuse to be honest. Thankfully not all partisans refuse honest debate.

Your clinical hatred for Harper aside, you should demand the media report 17-22 days vs 2-4 months.

    Did they?

Going by the Globe & Mail, there wasn't 17 sitting days lost... it's 22.

    Anyway, here's what we got.

Parliament closed for the winter break: Dec. 14.

Original opening of Parliament: Jan. 25.

Current opening of Parliament: March 4.

However you calculate it, it's a long stretch.

Just going to take a moment to quote a young and idealistic Stephen Harper....

“The Liberals, apparently, want to prorogue the House. They want to run out of town, get out of town just one step ahead of the sheriff. Is the Liberal government committed to staying here as planned throughout the month of November so that it can be held accountable in the House for its actions?”
    - Stephen Harper (October 20, 2003)

  8. Sharon,

I don't take everything from a politicians as gospel. I did not expect a hard right neo-con agenda by Harper. (So I am not scared or let down)

Pragmatic, practical, preztel PM has been my description.

Some partisan have a problem with a politicians being flexible or working for all Canadians.

    Accurate reporting:

How does 22 days become 2-4 months? *Term used by MSM in describing prorogue.

Ommission of key facts, Christmas break, olympic shutdown all agreed beforehand.

What is the shortest month in a calendar 28 days? We don't even have that number.

Sharon we can find a large number of issues, this is just not one adults should spent a great deal of time on.

Pension, Deficit, Budget, Priorities for 2010, what to cut...

    Perogie

the latest stunt (time will tell)who is right.

The Liberals are so eager to get back to work they won't return for another few weeks from their Christmas holidays!

  12. Well according to Tony, "real" Canadians don't care; it's the "elites" that are making this a big deal:

    http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/01/11/prorogue-protest-professors.html

"I know it's a big issue with the Ottawa media elite and some of the elites in our country, but I got to tell you if reaction in my constituency is any indication, I've had maybe three dozen emails... It may not be what the chattering classes want, but we're not here to govern on behalf of the chattering classes"

    He's certainly a charmer.

  13. Predictable response from Tony, isn't it?

Anyone who bothers to think more than five minutes about something is now an elite member of the chattering classes.

He's calling Canadians stupid and rubes like CuntnadianSense are lapping it up and think he means...someone else.
