He's sacked Eric Margolis:
"I wrote for the Sun chain for 27 years because it allowed me total freedom of expression even when the editors disagreed with my opinions - something very rare in the media," Margolis told TSF [Toronto Sun Family Blog] in an e-mail today.
"This policy has changed. My views are displeasing to Ottawa," he says. "Accordingly, the Sun and I are parting company."
No dissenting opinion allowed - the new motto of the vampire FNN and Sun Media. KKKory strikes again.
ReplyDeleteThe changes occurring in the Canadian media today are truly frightening. Down the road of partisan journalism lies only division, fear and - as whenever conservatives win - truly bad government which doesn't reflect the values or pursue the interests of the vast majority of citizens.
ReplyDeleteOne hardly knows whether to laugh or cry.
If you want to cry, get a handkerchief.
If you'd rather laugh, check out this hilarious spoof of SUN TV's recent idiotic online ad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOTJxB6X-pU
It's somewhat more candid than the original.
Thx for the hospitality, BCL.
Lots of room over at AlJezzera with all the other ex-CBC folks.
ReplyDeleteRidenrain - you are pathetic. Just look at what happened to Ms Sharrod in the US because of misleading partisan journalism from Fox.
ReplyDeleteFOX news didn't fire Ms Sharrod. FOX news didn't fire Van Jones either... but at least it's clear that the white house is now watching FOX.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how you missed that he stated that SUN editorial policy was RARE.
ReplyDeleteDid you overlook the criticism against the existing Canadian media outlets?
Non Liberal Worldview Headline: Why did the Sun Media wait 27 years to embrace restrictive editorial policy?
Will this new policy mimic the results in the US with Fox News dominating the landscape and audience numbers?
"Did you overlook the criticism against the existing Canadian media outlets?"
ReplyDeleteUm where in that article. Making a statement about the Sun's former openmindedness is a statement about the Sun. Geez CS, the wanking is affecting your brain.
Ridofbrain, you're stupidity continues to astound. Fox News got caught red handed yet as per conservative usual they blame others.
Responsibility must be a taboo word in conbot land eh Ridofbrain?
You can whistle past the graveyard all you like but FOX is more popular than all the other networks combined. That's what the CBC and the Canadian lap-dog media are scared of.
ReplyDeleteShirley should never have been hired in the first place, having won a 13 million lawsuit against that dept years ago. And, why didn't the WH watch the whole segement instead of panicking that Beck would have it on his show. Hey, he didn't and she had already been fired by the time it hit O'Riley. And when Beck did run it he was for her not against her. O goofed again, just like when he had to have the beer summit.
ReplyDeleteWhere did Weston end up, and who will be next.
You can whistle past the graveyard all you like but FOX is more popular than all the other networks combined.
ReplyDeleteFoxNews is bigger than CNN and MSNBC combined. Highest rated show on FoxNews pulls in 3 million views and averages about 1.2 million viewers through the day. It's interesting to keep in mind that network news though pulls in more viewers with NBC's nightly broadcast bringing in 7.5 million viewers, ABC with 6.6 million, and CBC with an audience of 5 million.
"FOX is more popular than all the other networks combined."
ReplyDeleteAs already illustrated, FOX isn't the most popular.
Note, too, how important that is: the more popular it is, the more... what? Correct it is? Entertaining? Controversial? Trashy?
If popularity made everything right, we'd be pushing chocolate as a major key food group.
In regards to popularity it is measured by groups like Nielsen

Americans do not trust the major tv news operations in the country- except for Fox News.
Our newest survey looking at perceptions of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News finds Fox as the only one that more people say they trust than distrust. 49% say they trust it to 37% who do not.
CNN does next best at a 39/41 spread, followed by NBC at 35/44, CBS at 32/46, and ABC at 31/46.
Predictably there is a lot of political polarization in which outlets people trust. 74% of Republicans trust Fox News, but no more than 23% trust any of the other four sources. We already knew that conservatives don't trust the mainstream media but this data is a good prism into just how deep that distrust runs.
For Democrats the numbers are a complete opposite- a majority trust all of ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC while only 30% have faith in Fox News. Continuing the trend in our polling over the last few months that independents hate everything, a plurality of them distrust all five outlets we looked at.

Time Magazine had their own poll.
http://www.starzlife.com/20090725/jon-stewart-considered-nations-most-trusted-news-source-without-a-hint-of-sarcasm/
Vanity Fair/CBS had a poll too which asked about the most trusted news source where CNN ended up at the top of the heap.
ReplyDeleteEvidence of the importance of methodology in polling (and census taking)... because it seems as though there's a different answer given every time this question pops up in a survey. ;)
Agreed anyone can produce a single poll to make a point.
ReplyDeleteDuring the height of the H1N1 crisis the polls were very negative after the support levels recovered.
Same with any manufactured crisis the timing of a poll and its release is important.
How many articles do we have comparing the Census change as an ideological right wing decision with citation from the usual suspects?
As someone who had the dubious pleasure of working with corn cob bob during his tenure at the canadian renewable fuels association, let me just say that he's even creepier and dumber than the pictures suggest.
ReplyDeleteoh and i still use my corn cob bob doll as a door stop to my bathroom and regularly stab it with voodoo magic needles...hmmm maybe i need to talk to the vendor about efficacy?
