Two Things About Leviathan Melvillei

Firstly, that's one sexxxy badass whale. A man, two girls, or a dozen full size poodles could fit within its toothy maw.
Secondly, don't get to comfortable with the name "Leviathan". Some guy named Koch used it to name what he thought was an aquatic Mastodon, but which turned out just to be a run-of-the-mill dry-land Mastodon. And by the rules of zoological nomenclature, Koch wins:
Just to reiterate: if the name was validly published according to the tenets of the ICZN, then the genus name Leviathan Koch 1843 is nomenclaturally valid even though taxonomically it’s junk, being a junior objective synonym of Levathan Koch 1841 and a junior subjective synonym of Mammut Blumenbach 1799. And if it’s nomenclaturally valid, then that name is preoccupied, and Lambert et al. will need to propose a replacement name for their awesome whale.

OT. I am listening to Canada Day celebrations from Ottawa as I write this. Quebecois shouldn't rap. They just shouldn't.

  2. Who on earth thought that the natural follow up to God Save the Queen was some hardcore "Algonquin Franco-Rap"?

Woman next to me in the crowd: "I can't understand a word they're saying!"
    Me: "They're french"
    Her: "So am I!"
