McVety Compares Canadian Broadcast Standards Council To Stalin

...will nevertheless comply with decision. McVety's 5-page rant can be found here. In it, he references Jonathon Kay's defense of Word TV that was itself censored by the National Post. Funny how things go sometimes.

  1. BCL.. I'm going to kidnap your blog for a moment.

Tis the season for a friendly blogger challenge, for us pundits and complainers to put down our pens for a moment and to do some small act for others - and then pass the challenge on to our readers and friends:

    Small Hero Challenge

You may now resume con-bashing :)

  2. His accusations of censorship are hilarious when you consider he's the guy trying to decide what films and TV shows are 'acceptable' for us to watch ...by having their Canadian film credits cut.

  3. BTW - I bash Harper's brain-dead automatons Mr Harvie

    That's definitely not you.

A wonderful idea and Merry Christmas too you & yours.

  4. So, McVety wrote this? He's referring to himself in the third person inside the document.

    ooookay then.

He's wallowing in his martyred glory like the happiest of swine in cool mud on a hot day. Like that wasn't predictable, but bless his heart, it is a temper tantrum indeed. He's writhing, kicking, screaming and turning scarlet above his tightly cinched necktie.

I wonder if McVety is against homogenized milk. After all, it's Stalinist in how it's forcibly treated to prevent the cream from rising to the top...and it's pushed on little children as *healthy* for them!!1! in public!!!

Nah, he'd have the dairy council up his backside faster than a bull on...

Shorter Rob: Some nuanced thinking = con bashing...

  6. Hi Rob,

I wasnt con bashing. It's crap TV, pure and simple. The funny thing is I actually like a lot of the same TV as my con friends. TV isnt partisan and neither is crap.

I worked on informercials with more viewers and substance. I pretty much feel that way about all crap tv regardless of the message.

Do I really want to watch a fat guy get all lathered up in bluster regardless of his topic? Um, no there's far better programming out there of the conservative variety. Why waste my viewing time on drivel?

Plus he's the guy that wanted to censor Young People Fucking without even watching it. At least you can take solace that some poor soul had to go through his shows and listen to McVety babbling. Unlike McVety of course.

Id suggest we create a non partisan category for all people like him: call it tools.

  7. Thanks T of KW.. and I was using the term "con bashing" tongue in cheek.

There is a reason that I like BCL, James Curran, and RedTory to my blog.

Honest and civil disagreement is the foundation of a healthy democracy.. and, not too often, but every once in a while, I learn a thing or two :)

Now go deliver a can of soup to a food bank!
