OTTAWA—Facing mounting public pressure, the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations, a committee of the House and Senate, agreed Thursday to withdraw advice to the CRTC to water down a regulation prohibiting the broadcast of false and misleading news.
Some observers now expect the CRTC, which is against the proposal, to withdraw or abandon the regulatory change it put forward in a consultation on Jan. 10.
Booyah!
By the way, the author of the above claims Finkelstein said today the reg change is dead.
Double booyah! IN YOUR FACE KORY, EZ, AND LILLEY!
Tell me it's ^NOT true!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't count our chickens, yet, tho';
this decision to pardon falsehoods isn't dead, yet: it might still receive Clemency.
Booyah! is right! I and about 100,000 others signed an Avaaz online petition against the proposal, and with thousands upon thousands protesting directly to the CRTC and other groups, this ridiculous plan will stop dead in it's tracks. But we have to remain vigilant and watch for the sneaky, underhanded and disrespectful tactics that some conservatives will employ on this and many other importand issues.

So a regulation that has never been enforced, and would never be practical if it were properly enforced, and is an invitation for political favoritism by government authorities, and might not even be found constitutional if challenged, is going to stay on the books.
ReplyDeleteYou'll excuse me if I don't "Booyah!"

ReplyDeleteSo the first time you make any comment whatsoever on said regulation which has been on the books over three decades is when the fight to make radical changes that would essentially gut it is stopped in its tracks? BOOYAH rabbit!
