...just in time to make this guy look silly.
The national numbers look increasingly crap for Liberals. But the Ontario regionals are pretty much saying no majority for Harper as they start shedding votes to, it seems, both LPoC and NDP. Anyway, cheer up Libs, pain builds character! And think of what it means for ME. I've lobbied for those Senate seats (for me and the wife) for ages now, and its all going to heck. Who'd of thought I should have been sucking up to Jack? I've already voted this time, but maybe it isn't too late to rename the blog LeftCoast Hipster and get out my old beret. Just don't make me listen to Pete Seeger.
Anyway, Libs will always have Moncton:

ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives look like where they were the last election whereas the Liberals are losing support. There's the possibility of the Conservatives maintaining their seats, while stealing a number of ridings that they were close in with regards to the Liberals.

Or a drinking habit. I'm planning on becoming an alcoholic after this election. :P
Don't discount Atlantic Canada. I have a funny feeling it will be the base of our next leader.

Bernard Lord if the Conservatives were smart. Fortunately for the Liberal Party they're not that smart - they'll probably pick someone like Kenney, or maybe even Mad Max from the Bruce?
Being out of office, I don't think Lord has much of a power base in the Party. Although he is a Tory I could probably wind up voting for, based on what I know of him.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Frank McKenna? ;P (The front-runner who never ends up running.)
ReplyDeleteI really hope it's Dominic LeBlanc.
ReplyDeleteMcKenna is too old - 67 by the next election if it's four years away and has been out of office for 14 years.
ReplyDeleteI like Dominic LeBlanc..I see Mr Ignatieff got mad while talking to the Star and told them 'the Conservatives can go to hell'!!!

Lord was looking into running for the CPC in a safe NB riding somewhere in this election, but probably backed off because it was looking like a Harper majority. He isn't going to wait 4 years in the backbenches as one of Harper's trained parrots, mainly because he's making much better money where he is.
As for your second sentence... Exactly! Bernard Lord is a Red Tory that would swing the CPC towards the centre - aka the Progressive Conservatives. He could easily win government if he was leading a moderate CPC against a weak coalition in 18-24 months time. But being he isn't a rabid right-winger - and most importantly not from Alberta - he won't become CPC leader. And that is good news for the Liberal Party in the long term.
"But being he isn't a rabid right-winger - and most importantly not from Alberta - he won't become CPC leader".
ReplyDeleteIf the CPC ever hopes to bring moderate former red tories back into the fold they cannot afford to have yet another wacky westerner as leader. Time for prairie populists to suck it the fuck up and support a leader from the east or forever suck hind tit politically.
