So, I use Google, and in particular the Google Toolbar, at least 100 times a day, maybe up to 200 times. I depend on its performance in my professional life, and if its offline then that's like stealing the Broad-axe from a Viking warrior, or cutting Samson's hair. And as of about two or three months ago its all turned to crap. Google searches hang forever (5 minutes sometimes), and they make all other windows impossible to work in while they're hanging.
I'm using 8.0 at home and at work. What's going on? I'm tempted to start searching through yahoo. Does webcrawler still exist?

ReplyDeleteSlow searches... some solutions here. I hope this helps. :)
Until it works, there's always bing.
one thing I've noticed is on rogers, searches have tended to hang more the last while, often turning up 404s. I talked to someone else and they've heard the same thing.
ReplyDeleteBut this whole working in the cloud thing disturbs me.
What browser are you using? I've seen Google Toolbar slow down Internet Explorer.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Google that's slow, in other words, it's the Google Toolbar.
Now, you can switch to Chrome, and search Google right from the Address Bar. But Chrome gets slowed down by the Flash Player, if you leave your tabs open too long.
PG, Its Internet Explorer 8, and I think you're probably right about the tool-bar, but I've launched a few searches from the google home page as well and IT seems to have slowed down.
ReplyDeleteYes, but that's because you have the Toolbar installed. It tracks what searches you run, and so interacts with the Google home-page. Browser toolbars are more evil than people realize.
ReplyDeleteI've been told it it actually crashes chrome.
ReplyDeleteUse bing

ReplyDeleteChrome shouldn't need a Google Toolbar, as the Google search functionality is built right into the address bar.
Flash has crashed Chrome for me when I have 40 windows open for days at a time (don't laugh; it's when I was trying to keep up with the nomination news).
I don't love any of the browsers at the moment. Each of them have their uses for me, but each of them drive me crazy in some unique aspects. However I avoid installing browser toolbars altogether, except for the developer ones in Firefox.
Uninstall the pig; it's only tracking your searches anyways, and why do you want to give that much data away so easily anyhow.
Did as you suggested, and performance is much improved.
ReplyDeleteGoogle have many toolbar and add ons so I use also google it more reliable than others.
