Here's the official talking points from the NDP website. And they're not all wrong. Connections are rife between the Harper government and Quebec separatists, as they are between the Harper government and Tamil Militants. Nevertheless, when the NDP picked Nycole Turmel they bolted a squeaky wheel to their party machine, which is now getting greased.
You are not 3rd party anymore, folks. Amateur hour is supposed to be over.
We will be fine and in the days ahead, my friend Nycole will show how wrong the media is right now.
ReplyDeleteMany progressive people in Quebec joined and or supported the BLOC. They were for many years the only "progressive" federal voice in the province. Case in point, you can see the BLOC and the NDP were almost identical on social justice issues, ie human rights, employment, housing, justice, environment, child care, and peace.
How is the media "wrong"? All they are doing is reporting the political history of a party leader. This is Canada, and I am not overly-troubled by the fact that a Quebec federalist has past seperatist affiliations, but this "How dare you!" reaction from the Dippers and a lot of their supporters is bringing out their insufferable sense of righteousness for all to see. You'd think the media was peeking up her skirts. Blaming this one on Stevie the Meanie ain't going to fly.
ReplyDeleteThe CBC today reports she denies ever actually voting for the BQ--she just encouraged everyone else in Quebec to vote for them. That tops Clinton's "I never inhaled".
Meh. If it wasn't this it would be something else. One thing you can count on is the conservative media generating controvery about progressive politicians. At least this one is useful for the NDP. They now have Quebec's votes locked up for the next election.

ReplyDeleteCome on, you aren't really that naive are you. The media has been building the narrative that the NDP are the new separatists ever since their surge became clear. This is their third crack at it by my count.
Come on, you aren't really that naive are you.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can be. Like when I ask myself how come a party that just knows it has an inside track on Virtue, Truth and Justice hasn't been able to establish or persuade one major media outlet to back it in sixty years.

ReplyDeleteTurmel held memberships in two separatists party. She knews something like this looks bad, which was one reason during the election she went on record saying that she supported Quebec Solidaire until it declared itself a sovereigntist party. I suppose Quebec Solidaire's decalaration of being a sovereigntist party was sometime yesterday, because that's when she ended her membership with the party.
Are CBC reliable? I watch some news from CNN its different.
