Were I Michael Ignatieff and were I intending to remain in Canada and attempt to rekindle a reputation as a public intellectual of note I believe I would tell the Liberal Party of Canada to leave me out of all future plans and take my name and number out of their files. In short to take a long leap off a short pier.
Whoever turns out to be the next leader of this pack of rabid monkeys had better have either deep personal resources of all kinds or a very big hammer in both hands and the will to swing them.
I second the above emotion. I met him twice on his swings through town as leader. He was approachable, affable, engaging and had a very easy going way about him. My only real complaint at the time was that when he spoke to a crowd his posture was terrible. It made him look 62 going on 82. All stooped over and jabbing those long fingers of his while pacing about the stage brought up memories of the Wicked Witch of the West or something. I remember thinking, you sound great and you look pretty good, but grab a stool and sit the fuck down while you speak, Grandpa!
I hope it was him who made the decision not to take part. I wouldn't either if I were in his place, nor would I stay in the country after reading the approx. 1000 vicious comments following his article in the Globe. He should go and live somewhere (France?) where clever people are truly appreciated and not insulted in the most vulgar and horrible way. We should all feel ashamed as a people. Let's hope the outside world takes notice. We deserve to be shunned and ostracized by educated people everywhere, and I will do my bit to spread the word!
I would have taken Ignatieff or Layton over Harper any day.
Harper's dirty tactics of insulting Ignatieffs family, turned me right off, Harper the "CHRISTIAN". Harper is so stupid, the immigrant family's are who built this country. We are all immigrants. The F.N. People are the only true Canadians.
Harper is no true Canadian, he is a Reformer. Harper founded the Northern Foundation Party. They said, the skinheads assisted Harper to organize his party. This was in 1989.
Their convention emblem reminds me of the Japanese Imperial flag circa the Second World War.

Give me Ignatieff, before the monster Harper.
