Christian Crossroads Previously Dinged By CBSC For Gay-Bashing Show

Christian Crossroads Communications has been in the news recently over this:

A Canadian Christian communications group that does taxpayer-funded development work in Uganda has rejected allegations that it is anti-gay and shares the east African nation's widely-condemned views on homosexuality.

And though they deny being anti-gay, they are the same folks that produce Its Your Call.  This show got taken to the CANADIAN BROADCAST STANDARDS COUNCIL for, well, here's a bit of the media release:

The CBSC’s Ontario Regional Panel examined the complaints under the Human Rights clauses of the CAB Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code which prohibit abusive or unduly discriminatory commentary on the basis of sexual orientation, as well as the Religious Programming clause of the CAB Code of Ethics which states that programs shall not convey attacks on identifiable groups.  The Panel noted that religious programs are allowed to declare homosexuality a sin, but that It’s Your Call crossed the line by allowing program participants to accuse homosexuals of a malicious “agenda” to “recruit” and “brainwash” children and of having a propensity to commit violent crimes such as rape targeting straight people.

The Panel also concluded that the program contained inaccurate information about various related issues, such as details about Toronto’s school curriculum.  Those inaccuracies violated the Full, Fair and Proper Presentation clause of the CAB Code of Ethics.

And the decision is here.So I am not sure I believe CCC's denials.

  1. I have, actually sent a formal request for explanation from the Government as to why they are funding faith-based organizations at all.. and received advise that the efficiencies of NGO's providing aid, etc., etc., no money used for religious propoganda, etc., etc.. all of which I think is garbage.

Regardless of how well intentioned, and I'm sure there are some great organizations (I have sponsored a child under the CCF myself) I think it completely inappropriate for government to give funding to any faith-based organization - regardless of how politically correct or incorrect they might be.

  2. I would prefer the government not fund any at all. However I Crossroads position on homosexuality is essentially the same as the Catholic Church.

Chris Selley in today's Post pointed out: "Development and Peace, which describes itself as “the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada” and is the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis, the Vatican’s international federation of aid agencies."
Slippery road for the left when it some of their favorite charities.

  3. Selley's post is crap. D&P has had its funding cut by feds AND is getting leaned on by Bishop's for being too damn liberal. Selley's logic is: Hitler should get gov $ because Stalin does.

But Stalin is really Ghandi and the gov has de-funded him and thrown him in prison.
