...I guess we can dub the "oily the oil spot" ads a dismal failure. Although Kinsella (see article for comment) and Taylor insist that everything played out according to the Tory plan, that the ads are a sign their War Room is playing Chess while the rest of us play off-key Ukeleles.
And the whole ugly denoument when Fuelcast, the company hired to run the ads on local gas pumps, realized that doing so might cause motorists to immolate said gas pumps with their own fuel, and backed out of their contract with the CPoC? That was just a double feint so the Tories didn't come off looking too clever.
Did I miss an election call? No? Then the ads worked just fine.
ReplyDeleteThey also seem to have succeeded in scaring off space aliens as well as an election call. If there were any space aliens in the vicinity.
ReplyDeleteIt's a ConservaPublican messaging strategy to frame all consequences as "working for them."
ReplyDeleteIt's stupid and dishonest but then, that works for them too.
You have a point bcl, the Liberals don't need an excuse to avoid an election.
ReplyDeleteBut it didn't scare off aliens:

Seriously, it wasn't about scaring off an election, it was about trying to change the public dialogue away from the various scandals.
Harper's squeaky-clean Party is in the news again:

ReplyDeleteHow come these manly "conservatives" don't seem to realise that these juvenile Heather-like snappy comebacks, on top of being really stupid, are also really quite effeminate?
Seriously, it wasn't about scaring off an election, it was about trying to change the public dialogue away from the various scandals.
ReplyDeleteThe only strategy was noise and swarming, which is what "Conservatives" do best. Jack up the wingnut wurlitzer with an exceedingly stupid and obnoxious ad campaign, examine the reactions, and highlight those that are to your advantage, which, in this case, is the assertion that the "Conservatives" have succeeded in framing a particular policy that has not been fully articulated.
The "Conservatives" don't play chess. They play checkers and periodically take the board and throw all the pieces up in the air.
And that's why they need to be, not only removed from power, but also...punished, along with their little pals at CanWest/Global.
Ti-guy a) I am not a conservative and b) gay-baiting? That's the best you can do? Frankly that makes me think you are the conservative. Give your head a shake.
ReplyDeletegay-baiting?
ReplyDeleteWhat does effeminacy have to do with being gay? It's just a way of describing a style of behaviour.
I thought I was going to get dinged for sexism, not homophobia.
Apologies for calling you "conservative." And I mean that sincerely.
I'm not a "conservative." I just don't have a problem being as mean as they are when it's required.
Well I just can't wait for Dion's Carbon Tax to be rolled out.
ReplyDeleteA he tries to explain it, everyone will be thinking he's just trying to bamboozle them with tax trickery.
Especially the vast majority of Canadians who will not be "deserving" of counter balancing income tax cuts.
Me & Oily can't wait for Dion's Press Conference when he announces his Carbon Tax on Everything Except Gas.
Word is he plans to go on the BBQ circuit this summer to sell his plan. The irony of him being photographed beside all those GhG spewing BBQ'a will not be lost.
Fretarded.
