On July 26th, 1969, at the age of 39, Buzz Aldrin became only the 2nd man to walk on the surface of the moon. This year, at the age of 69, he became one of the world's most famous climate change deniers:
While trying to spread the word about the possibilities of space, Dr Aldrin said he was sceptical of climate change theories.
“I think the climate has been changing for billions of years,” he said.
[...]
“I’m not necessarily of the school that we are causing it all, I think the world is causing it.”
...an event much discussed in on blogs, on Fox, and elsewhere. Less often mentioned was the fact that, around the same time, Buzz also came out as a proponent of the theory that there is an alien artifact--a "monolith", if you will-- on the Martian moon Phobos:
Ah well, we all get old. In any case, many years ago climate change denier Fred Singer also thought something was fishy about Phobos.
Hey BCL, that's some very convincing arguments you made at Climate Feedback that McIntyre shouldnt get the data because after all he's just a sh1t disturber. After all, science - and humanity - are better served when data is only made available to nice, subservient scientists.
ReplyDeleteIn any event this is a side show - the AGW hypothesis has repeatably failed to make any kind of reliable prediction, which is after all the only true test of a scientific theory.
This brilliant author has expressed the point quite succinctly. Where's the hotspot BCL? Oh I know you're going to come back with Santer et al, or even worse, Sherwood et al, and I cant wait.
Ol' Buzz may be at least partially right, While there is ample evidence for global warming and human caused increases in CO2 the direct link is still under investigation. If you can find the time to view this lecture from the CERN Colloquium series about the effects of Cosmic rays on cloud formation.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying we should not worry about CO2 emissions and continue burning up all the petroleum as fast as we can (so the Chinese don't get it)for a lot of reasons not the least of which is the Climate, but there are other possible factors beyond human control.
hmm sorry looks like my sherwood et al link only adds to the current domain or whatnot.
ReplyDeletehere it is.
Yes, shame of Buzz Aldrin for having an opinion independent of the mind-numbing conformists.
