Three More Canadians Killed, Makes Four Today

How long are you willing to put up with this shit?

For as long as it takes to make sure that girls who can't go to school in some parts of Afghanistan can, and to be certain that those who finally can in other parts of the country will continue to be able to do so.

That's some projection capabilities there, didn't know you could read L.K.O.'s mind and gauge his true feelings.

My answer to the question: until the mission is complete and Afghanistan is secure from the threat of the Taliban re-taking power and capable of dealing with the remnants of the Taliban-al Qaeda symbiote on its own.

Now that is funny. You cannot make stuff like that up.

Britain abandoned the place as a colony because they could not get the different factions to stop fighting each other or Britain.

The Soviets managed to unite the factions but unfortunately only against them. Once they left the different factions went at each other again.

The whole history of that god forsaken land is one of conflict and war and you expect this time will be different?

Leaving in the middle of a commitment demonstrates weekness and a great disrespect for those who have already lost their lives.

Whether a liberal likes it or not, we're in the middle of a global conflict and that's what our army is for.

I suppose you prefer American boys dying for our freedom. It's a lot less painful that way.

any decision to leave Afghanistan should be based on what is best for the Afghanis, not what is best for us. We went to war, now we have to deal with the consequences.

Just remember that next time ANY politician wants to send our troops anywhere

Point well taken, this is no time to leave helpless Afghanis.

We should remember how well our soldiers have performed before we send them into another necessary combat zone.

"You're repeating the same kind of crap of Soviets did to justify their occupation."

Right, the Canadian occupation of Afghanistan. We're such imperialists, us Canucks!

Well, I've been told. I don't even know how to respond. I guess no one cares about the women of Afghanistan then, since bigcitylib who wants to hand them back over to the Taliban doesn't care, and apparently I (who wants to NOT hand them back over to the Taliban) don't care either. I guess we should just abandon this "God-forsaken land" and let whatever happens, happen.

Sucks for the Afghanis though.

Ah well, too bad. They should have known better than to have been born in Afghanistan.

Serves them right I suppose.

Oh, I should also say that I don't think we should leave before the Dutch.

I don't want us to ever look like right-wing imperialists, but if it gets to the point that we're considered right wing imperialists for standing with the Dutch, well, I'll need to turn in my "leftist" card and move to Amsterdam with the rest of the fascists.

Sigh. I miss Amsterdam.

Never met a Dutchman I could trust.

Despite being a Rae supporter, I believe we went to Afghanistan for the right reasons and we must remain until there is some light. That our tactic may need to be altered is without question -- my main argument would be that the united forces should demand that the US make a bigger commitment to what they started.
I also believe that in the end, we must help Afghanis realize that the Taliban and al Queda are not fighting for their interests, but for the right to dictate over a country. Afghanis are proud people and have stood up and battled many an intruder. We need to win the pr battle and at a quicker pace.

I am upset that Canadians were killed, but I don't think we should withdraw from Afghanistan because we suffered casualties. That is just capitulation.

We probably should never have involved ourselves in this ill fated military adventure and we certainly need to decide how and when we can withdraw but our withdrawal must be because it is the right thing for Afghanistan and Canada.

I feel like a broken record here, but this is the typical North American response-'We should support our troops because they're like really great and stuff, but I gotta go now and shop at Wal-Mart because it would be too hard to make a change in my personal life that might actually benefit somebody ie not supporting a store that uses sweatshop labour so that I can get a Made In China spatula for $0.99'.

I am all for rights but I find that armchair quarterbacks in this country pretty nauseating.

I think the "typical North American response" is actually:

"I know we went in there because the place was overrun by religious fanatics and al Qaeda terrorists who attacked our closest ally and killed thousands of people, but they keep shooting back and killing our soldiers, and it's getting tough now, so we should bring our soldiers back and let the Afghanis go back to living under the Taliban surrounded by Al Qaeda training camps. Because our soldiers are worth more to me than the people of Afghanistan, and I don't care if they're ruled by crazies who support people who will try to kill us from time to time... that's their problem".

And "Canadians take care of Canada, Afghanis take care of Afghanistan and it's no more my business how bad their lives are, than it is their business how great mine is" is a valid point of view I suppose.

But it's not mine.

It's not mine either. I'm just saying that it's easy to support the troops when all it means is putting a sticker on your car or writing some BS blog.

Fair enough. Then that leads to the conclusion that it's time Western Civ got off it's duff and obligated every American, Canadian, Brit, Aussie, etc. to contribute to the war effort on a grand scale and stamp out evil Islamic Fascism for good.

Not a lot different from what our fore-fathers did in WWII, the big one, is it.

Your gov't sent them there and effectively, it was your Liberals that tipped the balance in favour of keeping them there...so maybe you should ask Iggy, but I think the answer is at least another 2 years...
