Quebec Provincial Police Prepare Another Story

From The Brockville Recorder Times:

MONTREAL (CP) - Quebec provincial police are holding a news conference later today to explain why three of its agents played the part of protesters at this week's North American Leaders' summit in Montebello, Que.

After originally denying it, the Quebec force has admitted the undercover officers were involved in the protest after a video clip of the trio showed up on the popular website, Youtube.com. But Quebec provincial police are denying they were attempting to provoke protesters into violence.

Rather, they say the three officers were planted in the crowd to locate any protesters who were not peacefully demonstrating.

The force will hold the news conference at 3:30 p.m. at its downtown Montreal headquarters.

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day has already rejected opposition calls for an inquiry.

Presumably, the cop with the rock was offering it to other protesters. If any of them had actually thrown it, he would have stepped in.

StageLeft's commenter Mark points to a CUPE photo showing a beer bottle in one of the "anarchist"'s back pockets.

Maybe he was just a thirsty fellow.

Hey, that's a story the SQ could peddle that I'd buy: "Yes, we did have undercover cops among the protesters, but it didn't turn out the way we intented. In their defense, they were drunk."

Since it was Quebec provincial police, that means they were under the direct orders of Jean Charest, a LIBERAL!!!!!

I'll be Mo Strong had his hands in there, too. This probably goes all the way up to the UN . . .

We can't even say this has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous...

Dave Coles said their eyes glazed over, must have been the beer.:^)

There was supposed to be a live press conference this afternoon on CBC Newsworld where the SQ was to explain their actions.

Been watching Newsworld and Newsnet all afternoon - and no press conference.

What happened?

The RCMP were in charge of security - orders had to come from above.

Not rocket science. What they (Quebec police) have to figure out is how to cover it up without hurting their own reputation and without letting the cat out of the bag that orders came from above.

Hence, Stockwell Day won't have an inquiry and the Quebec police will take the brunt.

Now I know why Harper made those smug remarks about the protestors - he must have known and felt all tickled pink with the arrangements.
