Sun TV Deletes Ezra Levant's Anti-Roma Screed

It used to be here.  Background on the network's latest foray into hate-speech here. H/T to Dawg  And a question to Kory Teneycke, boss of bosses at Fox News North (Sun News Network):  why let these kind of broadcasts happen, and then pull them down when they cause your network shame?  Why not just tell your boys to not act like racist dickheads on the air or they'll be fired?  "Tabbing it up" hasn't done fuck all for your ratings, has it?  Why not change?

Ear to the ground tells me that the police are taking an interest in Levant's anti-Roma broadcast. People should call Toronto Police to support the Roma.

Interesting article on Rabble:

http://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/rabble-staff/2012/09/ezra-levant-openly-promotes-hatred-against-roma

Apparently, before it was taken down, there had been a number of comments suggesting that Roma be killed or otherwise harmed. The worst comments were eventually removed, but they had been up for some time.

If Levant's writing encouraged this vile response, then I think there could be a case made that Levant violated the criminal code.

Section 319(2) of the CC is plainly applicable in this case. Meanwhile the RCMP is grounding union planes because they carry anti-Harper messages.

Is it possible to swear out private complaints, given that the Mounties are trying to sit this one out?

Note: the offence took place on national airwaves. Plainly RCMP jurisdiction.

Once again the anti-hate provisions of 319(2) have nothing to do with violence. Its all hate promotion. Its the same law Keegstra was convicted under.

It deals with promoting hatred "its a criminally indictable offence to knowingly and wilfully promote hatred agiang an identifiable group", no talk of anything else.

And, Dr Dawg the RCMP have nothing to do with potential charges. This will be in the hands of the Toronto Police Service.

With respect, the offence took place on nationally-licenced airwaves. It's clearly federal (RCMP) jurisdiction.

Having some problems tonight apologies for the deletions....

Dawg, sorry but you are wrong here. We are dealing with the criminal code that is over-seen by the province. This section of the criminal code requires the approval of the ONTARIO Attorney-General that should tell you all you need to know. I have checked this out with an eminently respected legal counsel who confirms this.

And I do believe that you are right.

Why wouldn't 319(1) apply? (No approval from AG required)

It is a tougher test-need to show that likely to lead to a breach of the peace.
