Tony Clement Tears Jar Off Bear's Head

...bear expresses support for census long-form, tells Industry Minister he's anti-science and generally full of shit.

In other news:

As he swam toward her, Mr. Clement said the river current made it hard for him to reach the woman, whose name was Jennifer.
[...]
Mr. Clement then scrambled to get to the riverbank as Jennifer began to float on her back, allowing her to drift downstream where Mr. Clement's wife and father-in-law were able jump in and pull her from the water.

Someone ask Mrs. Clement what she thinks of the long form, or her dad. Then maybe I'll listen.

So what the article is saying is Tony Clement failed to save her. Who fucking cares what he failed to do. Are they paid to write this cap on behalf of the PMO?

He said - "I felt the undertow working on me. I had to get to the riverbank," he tweeted.

What says moron better, tweeting you (almost) saved a drowning swimmer or not knowing the most basic rules: 1. never jump in a river fully clothed, your likely to become a statistic (a little irony) 2. yes Tony, undertows are dangerous, rivers have them, and you actually live on one. Your hardly in a position to be giving Canadians advice on swimming safely in our lakes and rivers.

This wasn't lost on Tony, I'm sure. Conservatives are impervious to statistics. They can swim in fast moving rivers, drive drunk, and never, ever, lose at casinos.

Whether he ultimately saved anyone or not, Tony Clement still risked his own life in the attempt. Stay classy, Liberals...

Who wouldn't?

Its nothing special, its what makes someone a compassionate human. The fact that conservatives are making such a big deal of it makes me thing most of them wouldn't.

Speaks volumes.

I was going to say the same thing, Fred from BC.
Way to take a selfless act and turn it into a petty, personal jab.

Scott Tribe, for one. Then there's John 'Dr. Dawg' Baglow, 'Sister Sage', 'Cowboys for Social Justice' and one or two other notorious cowards on the Liblogs.

(I figure if you're such a snivelling little chickenshit that you have to ban people from your blog rather than risk them embarrassing you in front of your regular posters, you're probably not brave enough to risk your life to save someone else, right?...)

Interesting observation. I saw it in one newspaper today, on page 25...haven't seen it anywhere else. The Blogging Tories are being quite quiet about it, too. Where are you seeing all these conservatives "making a big deal of it"?

Okay, spare me the selective appeals for compassion and moral absolutism. If Iggy or Layton committed a heroic act, and then, "tweeted it" under the guise of giving a public service announcement, they would be spared no quarter, especially from Conservative partisans . And the reason why is the same reason why Clement is getting a little skewered here: It is one thing to conduct a heroic act, it is another to publicize it to draw attention to yourself. Let us not mince words: When you are high profile minister of the government, your "tweets" are going to get exposure. It is awfully naive to think that Clement did not consider the possibility of drawing attention to himself and this event when he put it up on his twitter page.

All in all, this is rather silly, especially on the media's part, since I have seen recipients of the Medal of Bravery, Star of Courage, and The Cross of Valour who have committed even more harrowing acts than what Clement has done, and they certainly didn't go around letting people know about it only to have it lapped up by the media. However, a brief note of their exploits are generally deep sixed in the City section of the local newspaper.

It really was a slow news weekend apparently for outlets to only derive the account of the event from Clement. And since he is known for prevaricating, I will wait for some other eye witness accounts. If anyone does remember, this awfully parallels Tony Blair's South Africa Swimmer rescue or so it was told initially.

It was on CTV's news broadcast at eleven last night. And one of the questions in the piece was whether this would help Tony Clement's image.

I dunno Fred, the only asshole I could see chuckling by the waterside would be you. You'd probably as their political affiliation before you'd decide to help.

You're comment shows the kind of blindly partisan trash you are.

Worse than that Gene, a drowning swimmer replying to Fred that was not a Harper supporter should expect an anvil thrown out as a life-preserver.

Fred you speak of being classy. You and the word 'classy' can never be used in the same sentence. The two together are as big an oxymoron as 'holy war' or 'Wall Street ethics'. Don't preach about class when you've shown us repeatedly that have none yourself.

So was the story of the bear with the jar.

Typical newsmedia padding of the story. But not what I was talking about; I questioned the claim about "conservatives making a big deal of it"...

Mildly amusing, if childish.

You have no idea what 'class' is, do you? A good example of 'no class' would be these people taking shots at Tony Clement just because they are hardcore liberal partisans
and hate him for being conservative. Not one thought for the girl who almost drowned, or for Clement for rushing right in there without thinking until he felt the undertow that could have killed him...oh no. Nothing but cheap shots from low-class Liberal ideologues who can't set aside their partisan vitriol for even one post to acknowledge a courageous, selfless act from one human being to another (or, at the very least, SAY NOTHING about it).

Like I said, "stay classy, Liberals."

As for you, suck it up and accept the fact that you got your ass kicked on another blog a couple of times for saying stupid, indefensible things; you then compoundedg your error by trying to defend your feeble arguments with a barrage of insults rather than a reasoned, well-crafted rebuttal. I didn't embarrass you, TofKW...you did that all by yourself. You want respect from me, you'll have to earn it...otherwise I'll just have to treat you like that little monkey who follows me around haplessly flinging his feces at me (and hilariously thinks people don't realize that he posts under two different names) like he thinks that will bother me...;)

You started this, you escalated it...don't come whining to me when you can't finish it.

Thanks Fred for proving to all to be a bigger and dumber asshole than we all previously thought.

Hypocrite and lacking in class. Nice touch Fred.

For a man who open made accusations of others not helping a drowning person and then boasting about besting others on a blog (so not true when it comes from Fred "I dont need to prove myself" from BC) it's astoundingly hypocritical of you to accuse others of lacking class.

Fred, you are the personification of ignorance, arrogance and a complete and utter lack of class.

Plus, what a thin skin you have for a person that only spews bullshit and never cares to prove it.

and if you're so tough Fred, come say it to my face in Vancouver.

Fred, you thought you kicked my ass?

If I remember right it was about the typical FOXNews viewer’s argument that the media is left-biased, and I provided you with quotes from Tom Flanagan (one of the founders of the Reform Party, and mentor of Steven Harper – maybe not so much now …just in case like Shelly Glover you ‘forget’ who he is) who states that is not true anymore and the Canadian media is usually quite balanced and favourable to the Conservatives.

I also (among many others) was asking for your ‘research’ to show how the media is biased towards the left.

You provided nothing but ideology and opinion …no facts.

I stopped arguing because I don’t debate crazy people. Hardly a ‘win’ for you.

And I know the truth hurts, but you have no class.
Your statements on these blogs over the years is ample evidence.
Also, nowhere did I insult Clement for being a compassionate human.

You remember incorrectly. I'm referring to an exchange that took place at least a month earlier. You weren't even involved in this one, were you?

(one of the founders of the Reform Party, and mentor of Steven Harper – maybe not so much now …just in case like Shelly Glover you ‘forget’ who he is)

ummm...you DO know that Glover was being sarcastic, right? As in "Joe who"?

(I'd best spell this one out, just in case Gene tries to read it:
she was pointing out that Flanagan was a nobody in the Conservative party, yesterday's man, and as such his opinions were unimportant..)

I also (among many others) was asking for your ‘research’ to show how the media is biased towards the left.

Once again, I don't remember any contribution from you. I was under the impression that I was arguing with Steve.

You provided nothing but ideology and opinion …no facts.

Really? here's my reply to Steve:

Oh, he'll come up with something, there are items to support one side, at the exclusion of others. I'll bet one thing- he won't cite the McGill study that looked into coverage of the parties for two separate elections. No, no, you'll NEVER hear mention of that from these two dimensional, intellectually dishonest, ideologues.

(since Steve mentions a university, I start there...)

So you've already looked into this, then? Good...then I don't need to post links to studies by UCLA, U of Connecticut, U of Missouri, Harvard, etc (just the studies done by Universities) or any of the reported "dozens" of independent studies/surveys. I also won't need to post the two pages of quotes by journalists themselves I found (many, if not most, working for left-leaning publications, or radio or TV stations) admitting that they and most of their colleagues were liberals. These are some of the best known journalists in North America...are they all lying?

Go look for yourself, Steve. Type into your favorite search engine "liberal media bias" if you have a few HOURS to kill...

-------------------

So, you think I should have posted the links instead of just telling him how to find them? Or just dumped all the information on his blog?

I stopped arguing because I don’t debate crazy people. Hardly a ‘win’ for you.

Whatever you have to tell yourself is okay with me. I grew out of allowing my ego to dictate my actions a long time ago (look at poor, pitiful Gene for an example of what that gets you). If you respond, fine...if not, that's fine too.
