CITS-TV, which hosts Mcvety's Word.ca, will be forced to read the following statement during the show's broadcast period:
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has found that the broadcast of various episodes of Word TV between July 19, 2009 and February 21, 2010 breached provisions of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code. By airing abusive or unduly discriminatory comments about persons on the basis of sexual orientation, CITS-TV breached the provisions of the Human Rights Clauses of both Codes. By so doing, CITS-TV also broadcast material which had the effect of conveying an attack on gays and lesbians, contrary to the terms of the Religious Programming Clause of the CAB Code of Ethics and Negative Portrayal Clause of the CAB Equitable Portrayal Code. In its observations about Gay Pride parades, CITS-TV also broadcast derisory comments about the practices of gays and lesbians, contrary to Clause 6 of the Equitable Portrayal Code. By making inaccurate statements about various issues relating to human rights and hate speech, and by mischaracterizing the purpose of the revision of the Ontario school curriculum and Gay Pride parades, CITS-TV also breached Clause 6 of the CAB Code of Ethics, which requires full, fair and proper presentation of opinion, comment and editorial.
Take away message? Don't call 'em "sex parades"!

I am always reminded that having broadcast standards in our country is one of the many things that distinguish us from the libertarian broadcast bent of our American neighbours. I'm surprised, however, that a complaint was not also made to the CRTC, since it is that body that has ultimate authority over licensing cable entities.

You mean those guys south of us who freak out at the idea of a wardrobe malfunction, lest some child see the contours of a boob!
No, we're both a bunch of puritanical ninnies. In our case we dont fear boobs as much as we do anyone saying something which is not ideologically aligned with the zeitgeist.
oh Zeitgeist my zeitkeister. If people are going to presume what they hear on tv is the truth, I prefer that programming actually be forced by law to produce truth when doing alleged non-fiction; doubly so when claims of truth are stridently trumpeted by religious authorities relying on their followers not questioning pronouncements.
This time it was gobbling about how Out Queer people behave aka Sex Crimes 24/7, next proclamation, it's Protocols of Zion or Indigenous Canadians are all irresponsible drunks rolling in taxpayer cash, or frankly, anything that reviles anyone not McVety'sBrandChristiansTM. But heck, who would do that???
My Canada includes one of the State lifeguards blowing an ethical whistle and telling someone using Canadian air waves to criminalize fellow citizens dissenting from said propagandist's gang, 'apologize'.
Wow, hand slap and hauled in front of the class for minor public shaming. I'm sure McVety will dine out on his martyrdom for years to come among the faithful.
I can only hope the dinged parties were told look to be ejected from the public pool if they're caught openly pissing in the water again.
An improvement in that it didn't involve one of our odious HRC's.
Victory is measured in small steps!

Uh, no. That wasn't what that was about at all.
Flash your titties all you like. But like flashing your titties at the dinner table when you have guests, during a football game isn't an appropriate time either.

That depends on the continent the match is played in.

That'll be awesome. So we could prosecute all of CBC's staff when they lie and distort the truth to meet their leftist agenda. We could call the agency responsible "The Ministry of Truth". That's brilliant and not orwellian at all.

Your Canada? I wasnt aware you had been proclaimed king. Well, your majesty, with all due respect, the CBSC is not a state actor, it's a voluntary consortium of broadcasters.
McVety is a tool, and I dont know much about this current controversy other than that being reported by BCL. Did he call gay pride parades "sex parades"? Oh my!
"The Ministry of Truth" lol that's a perfect name for the power button.

Sad... a sign of an unfun life.
McVety got slapped down primarily for equating homosexuality with pedophilia, namely that those who are gay/lesbian have a preference for underage flesh, and that this is one of the reasons the "gay agenda" (not quoting McVety specifically here, just those of his ilk on this given the widespread use of this term) is after gay sensitivity/awareness teaching in the public school system. There were other offences raised but ultimately dismissed by the CAB, but this one clearly crosses a line into genuine maliciousness and inciting hatred by the use of unproven (in actuality disproved which makes it worse) smears using one of the most serious attacks on another human being let alone class/group of human beings that they prey on children. Absolutely disgusting.
To quote the panel as quoted in the Broadcaster (http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/issues/story.aspx?aid=1000395760) Magazine: "McVety may not like homosexuality. That is his entitlement, but to leave the totally unsubstantiated impression that gay and lesbian adults have a predilection toward young, underage people is insidious and unacceptable. In all, the Panel finds the McVety mis-characterizations as excessive, inappropriate, disparaging, and abusive [...]." Thanks to Bene Diction at http://www.Benedictionblogson.com for this link. McVety is one of the more rabid public homophobes who claims religious grounds for his intolerance in this country, and of course a long time supporter of Harper from well before he attained the PMO.
