The Future Of Ford Nation

"The fluoridation of drinking water could be eliminated, with impacts on dental health," says the multi-million $ KPMG that report Rob Ford ordered up to help him cut T.O. services.

Actually, I've been told that a few city councillor's have been suggesting that one or two West End water-pads start charging residents for using them.  And the response from residents out there has been to go ape-shit.  This is what you get when you tell everyone that the city's fiscal problems are everyone's but their's.  Nobody is willing to sacrifice.

I remember there being much press hoopla about Calgary voting in Nenshi in juxtaposition to Toronto voting in Ford.

And yet...and yet...

One of the first big public moves under Nenshi was voting flouride out of the city water. Nevermind all the medical screams of anguish contrary and the apparently nanny state squashy arguments about public health for all.

So, I guess no matter where you go, there you are. Health conspiracists rule.

Free market forbid flouride should be taken out, but a national dental care plan be put in as a preventative to many, many, many health problems.

Did he actually DO that? I thought it was just under consideration. Very disappointing, if so.

Nenshi wasn't even in Calgary for the vote. He said in an interview he probably would have voted against removal and wished that council had listened to the medical experts. Can't help but think that's a bit easy to say when you've avoided the situation.

Flouride isn't the only thing on the chopping block, there's lots more, which is why I created http://www.splittinghairs.org/toronto-budget/ to ask Toronto "How would you balance the budget?"
