Sun News Tries To Raise Funds

Apparently nobody showed up for Ezra's Freedom Weekend.  You can deduce this from the fact that when you  google "Ezra Levant" and "Freedom Weekend" you get basically nothing.  Not a single news story, blog-post, tweet, twit-pic...nothing.  The gang at FreeD bowed out; the Shaidle's were busy waving placards in front of a mosque somewhere; Dr. Roy apparently went to the opera.
And if you watch some Sun TV clips on youtube these days you will find they can ramble on for 15 or 20 minutes without a single advertiser interrupting to to hawk their wares.  Not Dr. Ho with his inserts, not the silver merchant that paints himself silver, not nobody.  Maybe these guys decided they're too classy for Fox News North.

So, when there's no dough coming in, what do you do?

You try something that didn't work the first time.

Now, I'm willing to link to the Maple Leaf Dinner sign-up page because I know you won't sign-up.  Either will anyone else.  Pay a $1,000 to sit between Ezra and Adler?  Sounds like a good evening to spend playing mini-golf with the guys from the office instead.

By the way the Canadian Centre for Policy Studies is these people.

Only If Its A Hippy

...and only they are allowed to bludgeon him to death themselves.

h/t Bourque, who's never afraid to ask the questions that matter.  Here is the source story. The fact that this kind of thing is achieving MSM status, even if its mostly in Europe, makes me wonder about the fragility of the world economy.  Why would you worry about what a co-worker tasted like if you weren't also worried about where your next meal was coming from?

On the other hand, whack Santa as he comes down the chimney and you can probably feed your family until summer.

What A Way To Start Your New Career

Charles Adler joins Fox News North just hours after announcing I'm a Radio guy and anything you read indicating otherwise is false. 100% committed to CJOB and Corus Radio Network.

Apparently, caught in this fib, Adler will be announcing his resignation from the new position at a press conference tomorrow.

And he's still as homely as the rest of them.

Sun TV Adds Some Glam

DENIED BY ADLER

Perhaps stung by my criticism re the generally homely appearance of their reporters, Fox News North has added talk jock Charles Adler to their stableFNN will now become the first stop on the cable dial for angry, middle-aged white guys with bum tickers. How can it possibly fail?

The Vampire Teneycke steps down! Booyah! I bet Ezra is next to go.

Fox North: Doomed To Failure

24/7?
Wells is heralding the arrival of the apocalypse--he's even shown up here to tsk tsk me in the comments for belittling it--and there are a few others who also seem to think that a right-wing, 24 hour news station in Canada constitutes an existential threat to the nation. On my part, I think that if anyone wants to flush a few hundred million down the tubes chasing a pale Fox knockoff, then at least that money isn't being spent on something that might really damage the fabric of the country.

The biggest problem for a "Fox North", other than the fact that they probably won't get their “mandatory distribution" license--lies simply in the demographics of the nation they wish to entertain. Look at it this way: the Conservative Party of Canada trundles along with the support of a little less than 1/3 of the nation by trying to convince people they are not Conservative. Strip that number down to the hard-core believers, and you have about 10% of the population (look at the Reform party support figures from over the years here). That's the potential size of an audience for a "robustly right" 24 hour news station. And, put bluntly, its about the same size you might need to run a specialty channel--a gay porn station, for example.

Now, most of the gay porn stations I've ever watched actually have a news-cast, which is typically done naked (they also have a cooking show). And unless David Akin is going to shed a few pounds, I can assure you the gay porn station's news-cast will be far, far better than anything on Fox North.

Which segues nicely into the whole notion of "pale" imitations. Considering who Fox-North "stars" might be, you realize how terribly short the Canadian right is on the charisma front. Wells has already ruled himself out, and FN will be hard pressed to find another bald guy of his stature. Monte Solberg is entertaining in 12 second sound bites, but terribly whiny over the long haul. Gerry Nicholls is suitably bald, but again--can he be entertaining enough for long enough to make it work? Adler? Have you seen Adler? A marshmallow in a suit! Ezra Levant? SERIOUSLY?? They'll be drowning in law-suits before the first broadcast! Plus, Ezra is less a pundit than the leader of a small death cult. Normal people--normal Conservative people--hate his guts! I once had a Tory loyalist inform me that if Ezra came out for Liberty, he would have to stand against it.

And that's my 2nd final point. Given the paucity of Canadian Conservative star-power, and the fact that you can still watch the real Fox News in Canada, why would anyone choose the fake version?

Believe me: this sucker is going to be the National Post of the air-waves. It will never make a single penny.

Why Does Charles Adler Hate Canada?

...or, at least, why is he insinuating that Members of the Canadian Armed Forces are not really men? Charles writes:

I talked to Jimmy's mother this week. James Hayward Arnal loved this country more than any of you quiche-eating, latte-loving, armchair quarterbacks.

Yeah, chuck, tell that to Cpl Rob Sargeant, stationed at a secret base located somewhere in southwest Asia:

There's a surreal feeling I get here - where with a well-equipped kitchen and gym we are able to keep fed and healthy in a barren desert climate. Some of the dishes the cooks are able to come up with are amazing - not just your typical meat and two veggies, they do everything from chicken swarma to quiche.

Or tell it to the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Association:

Bloomfield is a small town with many interesting boutiques, galleries, antique shops, and tea rooms. We had an enjoyable couple of hours browsing the shops, then it was to Angeline’s restaurant for lunch. Angeline’s is in an historical house lovingly refurbished to its original beauty by owner and Chef Willi Fida. Our lunch was Quiche Lorraine and salad; for desert the most delicious fresh apple strudel I have ever tasted, followed by tea or coffee. Taking a different route we arrived back at the Base about 1430.

You calling the 1st Battalion a bunch of girls, chuck? A pale puffball like yourself?

Up Yours, Chuck

I actually drink tea, and can't stand quiche, but nevertheless I am not prepared to have my patriotism questioned by some peon from the foothills outside of Gooberton with hayseed in his beard.

PS. We all know what you mean by "upscale coffee shops"; I really don't understand why Conservative pundits insist on dividing Canadians based on their choice of caffeinated beverage. And you know, while Mr. Harper officially promotes the coffee der volk, when he comes to T.O. he's been seen drinking the homosexual stuff. It even looks like he enjoys it.

Charles Adler Chose To Become A Mouth Breather

He probably doesn't remember it, but Charles Adler interviewed me about 15 years ago when (if I am remembering correctly) he worked on a television show for none other than Garth Turner. I remember a pale, puffy fellow who, from the size of the knot in his neck-tie, never really learned the trick.

And it always amuses me to see how his move West transformed him into a Calgary Carnivore, throwing out slabs of raw meat for the local yokals. So when you read something like this, remember, its all fake. Charle's knows a few two syllable words; there's just no point using them in Alberta.
