1) No underlings (military, RCMP) in tow.
2) No coffee in the coffee mugs (nor anywhere else in sight).
3) Plus--and this is the clincher--if you look at a close up of Harper's coffee mug
...you realize that its thisYes, a "With the Beatles" coffee mug. "All my loving" and lame stuff like that. People, you can't talk War with anything less than a Led Zep mug, and really, this is best.
PS. The always observant Buckets notes:
Note also the family photo in the background. But where is this meeting taking place? Harper's office? Then the seating at his desk is wrong. A meeting room? Who has pictures of their family in a meeting room? And whose pictures of their family have themselves so prominently placed? No, again the choice of photo is all part of the staging -- to display Harper as a family man.

How come Van Loan didn't get a chair? Were they worried he might hurt himself with it?
Somebody should add some dialogue to that scene.

Its already being worked upon, I am told
Na, expect for a few tunes like 'Immigrant Song' or 'Communication Breakdown', it takes Led Zep a good 4 minutes to boil water. Old Sabbath is cool, but Ozzy's singing anti-war songs and stuff about judgment day. When you're waging the war on terror, you need to crank up AC/DC! 'Dirty Deeds' would work well, suits Harper's political maneuvers too.
Aren't these assmonkeys supposed to be in their ridings?
No dialogue? Looks like the the perfect opportunity for some creative voice overs...
Guy on the left is seems to be looking for his cue to talk....
What I like about the Connies is that they are such little schoolchildren pretending to be adults and their followers believe that...
Look! they must be working hard because they have ties on!
(Van Loon(sic) looks like he's asking for a bathroom break)
That really must have been a security meeting. There was a very dangerous weapon sitting right there on the table. The RCMP weren't in attendance because they would have had to taser anyone who picked it up.

Who's that on the right? And why isn't Stockwell Day there?
New day, new excuse and when all else fails try the FEAR card. New song for Harper (not Beatles but he likes old songs)

Games People Play
Oh the games people play now
Every night and every day now
Never meaning what they say now
Never saying what they mean
And they wile away the hours
In their ivory towers
Till they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine
Chorus
La-da da da da da da da
La-da da da da da de
Talking 'bout you and me
And the games people play
Oh we make one another cry
Break a heart then we say goodbye
Cross our hearts and we hope to die
That the other was to blame
Neither one will give in
So we gaze at our eight by ten
Thinking 'bout the things that might have been
It's a dirty rotten shame
Repeat Chorus
People walking up to you
Singing glory hallelulia
And they're tryin to sock it to you
In the name of the Lord
They're gonna teach you how to meditate
Read your horoscope, cheat your faith
And further more to hell with hate
Come on and get on board
Repeat Chorus
Look around tell me what you see
What's happening to you and me
God grant me the serenity
To remember who I am
Cause you've given up your sanity
For your pride and your vanity
Turns you sad on humanity
And you don't give a da da da da da
Repeat Chorus

If they were really working they would have their sleeves rolled up! We know that from the GHB era.
In the US, when the government wants to turn up the heat on security, they have a fighter jet or two "escort" a passenger jet (as if the fighter jet can do anything useful other than shoot the passenger jet down) due to some trumped up incident (someone complained about the small bag of peanuts).
In Canada, our budget is, errr, more limited, and we get this.
Van Loan looks disappointed that he was first out in musical chairs.
