Tory Turmoil Lingers In Simcoe Grey: Guergis's Sister Quits EDA
News from Helena's Guergis old riding:
Meanwhile, in the background, the local Conservative riding association is going through a bit of upheaval; on Thursday, riding association president Andy Beaudoin officially resigned, and his resignation comes on the heels of the resignations of two other EDA board members (granted, one of those individuals is Christine Brayford, the sister of Independent Conservative MP, Helena Guergis).
I traded emails with Beaudoin on the weekend; he had some pretty harsh words for the party’s treatment of Guergis (story to be published on the E-B website today – fingers crossed!). Guergis is getting quite a bit of press, both locally and nationally, so it’s clear she’s making sure she gets the message out just before we head into an election… and doing a good job of painting the Conservatives (and Harper, especially) in a terrible light…
Interestingly, the same blog recently reported that the CPoC was attempting to buy Guergis off. Guess she didn't bite.

Increasing The Quota Of Tory Turmoil in Simcoe-Grey
Is Helena running or negotiating an exit package?
Under normal circumstances, a Conservative winning the seat in Simcoe-Grey would be a walk in the park – but Simcoe-Grey ain’t normal. The Independent Conservative Member of Parliament for Simcoe-Grey, Helena Guergis, has been quite vocal in recent days in the national media about running for re-election; I’m sure having her out there, reminding the Conservative leadership of her presence, only hastens they’re efforts to find suitable employment for her outside of politics (yes, that’s going on…)
The blogger here is managing editor of the Enterprise-Bulletin newspaper, so I would assume he knows what's what up in that neck of the woods.

Tory Turmoil In Simcoe Gray?
COLLINGWOOD — A candidate for the Simcoe-Grey Conservative nomination says an endorsement letter that went out 'penned' by Simcoe County's warden was a result of a "big miscommunication."
Cal Patterson, who is also mayor of Wasaga Beach, said he was "furious" when a letter enthusiastically endorsing Dr. Kellie Leitch showed up at his door late last week — signed by him.
A miscommunication? Isn't forging a signature illegal?
Helena shall romp.

Will Helena Guergis Run?
Imp says she will--based on a CTV interview from yesterday night--either as a Tory or as an independent candidate. This would be a reiteration of her claim from back in May:
"If it is my only option, say if something happens in the very near future, yes, I will run as an independent," Guergis said.
Its hard to know how much support she would command, but it may be significant that at around the same time she was making the above threatening noises, rumors circulated that members of the Simcoe — Grey CPoC riding association executive were resigning in significant numbers over the party's discarding her for a new candidate.

Grassroots Guergis, Part II
"If it is my only option, say if something happens in the very near future, yes, I will run as an independent," Guergis said.
Hmm. She won with 55% in 2008. I wonder if she could pull enough of the vote as an Indy to tip it Liberal?

Grassroots Guergis?
The federal Conservatives were polling vigorously a couple of weeks ago over Guergis and various scenarios, including what would happen if she ran as an “independent conservative.”
One Conservative said her grassroots support had dried up as innumerable candidates wanted her job.
But that may have all changed this week as Simcoe — Grey members of the executive were rumoured to be resigning in significant numbers over the federal actions.
Just rumours, but we'll have to watch where this goes. Why not run as an IndyCon? Its not like she owes the CPoC anything.

May It Go On Forever
OTTAWA — Canadians do not yet know everything there is to know about the actions of former Conservative cabinet minister Helena Guergis and her husband Rahim Jaffer, says a Conservative MP.“I can assure you that there is far more to come out,” Shelly Glover, parliamentary secretary for official languages told CTV’s Question Period Sunday. “This isn’t finished.”
And may the "A-word" be uttered daily on the floor of the HOC. Because why? Because this.
PS. I'd laugh nervously if I'd said something this ridiculous too. Harper did not act quickly over the serial screw-ups of Ms. Guergis. He tried to pull a Chretien--that is, hang on to his errant minister until a quiet moment when the press wasn't looking, and dump her then. But I've seen Jean Chretien on TV and, Mr. Harper, you are no Jean Chretien.

Buckets, P.I.?
Last night, I came across this cryptic post from Buckets:
My guess?
Fingerprints on the cocaine baggy.
But it all made sense this morning:
The mysterious third party who uncovered serious allegations that led Prime Minister Stephen Harper to toss MP Helena Guergis out of caucus is a private investigator, CTV News has learned.
Police sources say the licensed private eye contacted a Conservative Party lawyer in Toronto, and expressed concern about a potential threat of blackmail arising from allegations about the purchase and use of drugs.
It has not been confirmed who may have purchased or used the drugs in question, or who may have been prone to blackmail.
In the absence of confirmation, lets apply reasoning. Rahim's relationship to the white powder is already in the public domain, so how he would be prone to blackmail is mysterious. Hmmm.
HMMMMM.

No Word On The Number Of Busty Hookers...
...but one salad
roasted tomato with lollo rosso bouquet, tomato vinaigrette, manchego frico, avocado mousse and sherry gastrique
...at Sassafraz restaurant, where Helena Guergis dined with Nazim Gillani, the financier at the centre of the Jaffer affair, will run you $14. And the "rare Bluefin Tuna" costs you $35. Sweet. Eating a threatened species.
I wonder who wound up footing the bill?

How Helena Got Her MBA
So yesterday morning BCer reveals that Helena Guergis has recently completed her MBA from the University of Alberta. Harris MacLeod over at the Hill-Times reads Jeff, reads Helena's wiki page, and thinks "WTF! How'd she get an MBA with only a real estate certificate from Georgia College. Does she really have an MBA? Does she have something better in the way of an undergrad degree?" Suddenly, Ottawa is abuzz!
About a 1/2 hour later the buzz starts to fade as Elizabeth Thompson phones up UofA and discovers that, yeah, the MBA has indeed been awarded. That leaves Helena's undergraduate degree in question. But then Ted Betts points out over in Jeff's comments that the University will make room for students without an undergraduate degree under certain circumstances, namely where the candidates
...have considerable professional experience.... Individuals who feel that this situation applies to them are encouraged to contact the admissions office to discuss their status."
Presumably the university would have considered her time as the proprietor of a bed and bath shop. Any idiot can be a cabinet minister in the Harper government, so that doesn't count.
And there you have it: LEAVE...HELENA...ALONE!!! at least on
this issue.

Meanwhile here's the only picture of her that I could find on-line that shows even a bit of cleavage.

The Education Of Helena Guergis
Will Jeff Jedras bring down a Cabinet Minister?
If so, I'm going to be very jealous. I've been trying to do that for ages.

Helena Guergis: Part-Time Minister
Between the shoe-throwing, screaming at Plebes, and UN lecturing, Helena Guergis has had time to complete her MBA. All this governing stuff must be easy.

Preserve Those Tapes!!!
Because there are still questions to be answered:1) Did Helena call PEI a "hellhole" or a "shit-hole"? Early reports were ambiguous.
2) What kind of boots was she wearing?
3) Was alcohol involved?
3) Did the process of disrobing extend beyond Helena's boots?
4) Was the "level of verbal abuse and disorderly conduct" Helena employed enough to land her time in Club Fed(though not, apparently, enough to get her booted from cabinet)?
Inquiring minds want to know.

So Far So Good
The first day passes, and no boots are thrown.
Guergis planned to stick strictly to the rule that she speak for no longer than three minutes, her handlers said.
Actually, most of Harper's cabinet ministers start to drool and make giggly noises after about 90 seconds, so you know why he wants to hang on to Helena.
