The Colorado Rockies are one of MLB's surprise success stories this year, but apparently HE has nothing to do with it. Players are objecting to a USA Today article suggesting that the team has:
become an organization guided by Christianity — open to other religious beliefs but embracing a Christian-based code of conduct they believe will bring them focus and success.
Some of the responses to the U.S.A. article have been, you might think, a little redundant. Manager Dan O'Dowd was forced to note here that:
"Ability is part of it.... I have neighbors who are good people, but they can't hit a 95-mile-per-hour fastball or throw a 92-mile-per-hour sinker."
First baseman Todd Helton even offered the following confession:
We're dirtbags, like 99 percent of the world. Maybe worse, because we are baseball players.
...although Todd's dirtiest little secret appears to be that he has Maxim delivered to him in the clubhouse, which will hardly get you the 9th circle of Hell.
