Blackle
Recently, Google designed a black version of its search page called Blackle in hopes that the color switch would save energy, the theory being that a black page uses less power to display. This theory has since been debunked, but the page does look very cool. For those nights when you're up late doing "research" and want to feel all sexxxy and dangerous. Better than sitting around in the dark in a leather jacket and mirror shades.

Its not about *using* less energy, but about generating *interest* & discussion of the issues.
I'm sickened by those who think SAVING energy is a foolish quest. Alberta is so paranoid. "oh no! not our OIL!" as if diminishing oil or hydro consumption in CANADA is going to actually reduce International or AMERICAN demand for the product.
Why? BECAUSE even the SOPRANOS will tell you that you SELL CRACK, you don't USE IT YOURSELF.
You'd think more Canadians would wake the hell up & say, "hey, what's WRONG with having a solar roof & contributing solar energy to the Grid?"
"What's WRONG with achieving a measure of personal energy independence?"
On my birthday in 2003, the Lights Went Out. Imagine the Ice Storm or the BlackOut could have been *just a bit less severe* if everyone had had a solar panel roof.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but apparently...
... even a promotional concept by Google towards Energy Independence is enough to drag out everybody who WANTS to pay a utility rather than figure out how to be THEIR OWN provider... or to use just a little less.
*sigh*
You know, before OIL, our Canadian pioneers figured out WIND POWER. Holland figured out how to CLEAR LAND with windpower.
You'd think a few hundred years later, we'd be SMARTER rather than more stupid.
But apparently, Canadians would rather aid Americans to invade other countries on the LIES OF AMERICAN CORPORATISTS than stand on our own two feet & beliefs.

Blackle is a cheap copy of the first page o www.searchincolor.com, which has offered google search in various colors since a much longer time.
I dont know about energy saving-but some colors definitely are better for my eyes. e.g. white on green.

Darkoogle.com also does the same hoping to save more energy using black background. Their green text on black are much more readable.
